Anyone else getting these?
Woken up each time in serious pain that lasts about a minute, then it goes, but the next day I can't walk properly? Last night I had the joy of one in each leg at separate times.
Is this normal? How can I stop it?

I have been suffering really bad with these as well, in particular in the night! Last week I had 2 days off work with it because my leg was so sore! I have no idea how to stop, them. I have heard a lot of things like drink more water but I drink loads and it's never stopped them! Somebody else said eat bananas!!!!!! I think it's just one of those pregnancy joys!!!!

Bananas are good for helping, it's the potassium I think.AAnother thing you can do is some exercises when you go to bed to stretch muscles out. Lie on your back legs straight. Rotate one foot 10 times in one direction then 10 times other way. Once you've done that pull your toes up to your knees so you feel calf muscle stretching. Do this 10 times. Then repeat on other leg. Once you get hang of it you can do both legs at same time. Mw told me this in my first pregnancy and it stopped the cramp.

Usually a potassium deficiency, bananas .

Apart tonic water also helps, it's the quinine

Bananas really do help. Leg cramps are agony and so bewildering in the night when you wake up with them suddenly! Warmth helps as well - a warm bath before bed or a hot water bottle against them. But a banana a day sorts it for me and I used to suffer from these a lot!

I had horrific cramps with my first pregnancy and my gynea gave me Magnesium supplements, they went away overnight. As soon as they started again with this pregnancy I went on the Magnesium and have been fine.

Thanks everyone. I'm starting with bananas as that seems like the most popular remedy. Have bought a bunch and had one today. Will have one everyday for a week and see if that works. If it doesn't I shall be trying another idea. Thanks again :)

I find it helps to leap up as soon as I feel one start, and stand on the affected leg to stretch out the muscle (usually while swearing loudly) - it stops the muscle contracting really hard and hurting the next day.

I've been suffering really bad leg cramps from about 20 weeks which have me leaping out of bed in the middle of the night in absolute agony and ended up in me one night having a really bad fall and suffering sheer terror as we then didn't feel the baby move for ages afterwards.
When I told my mw she suggested tonic water so I now have a small glass every night before bed. It hasn't stopped them altogether but they are much less frequent now and not nearly as painful when they do occur.
