Consultant-led pregnancy - midwife-led birth?

I know this is a question for my consultant really but hey you lot are here on a Friday evening and my consultant isn't. Grin

I'm on a consultant-led path at the moment. There was some talk of transferring me back to midwife care but I'm now very firmly stuck on consultant-led through the rest of the pregnancy (for good reason, not complaining). It hadn't occurred to me until just now that this might scupper any hope I had of birthing in the MLU at the local hospital.

Does being consultant-led through pregnancy inevitably mean I won't be able to have a birth in the midwife led unit? Or will it depend on my circumstances (my understanding is my risks are largely with the progress of the pregnancy rather than risks associated with the birth).

Any info or experiences much appreciated!

It depends on why you are consultant led and if it's a reason that would exclude you from the MLU.

The hospital I delivered my son at was pretty much one department, so despite being 29 weeks I only had midwives (apart from the neonatologist setting up in the corner) and the used a pinard before other equipment and other things that showed it was very much a midwifery model.

Ah. I hope you and DD's are well.

Yes we are fine, just very mild symptoms. There is a 50% chance this baby has it too, if it does then they obviously don't know to what degree it will be affected, thats why I have to be under fetal medicine. Well at least until I get the results of the CVS.

squitza just seen your post, another Hughes here, are you on Clexane? It might affect how they handle your birth. I never got far enough but they were talking about induction so they could time it with the last injection, not that I'd have let them.
