Pounding headaches

I know I won't be alone on this but has anyone got good tips to cope?
This is my 3dc and don't recall this with last 2 apart from feeding but that was due to not drinking enough.

I'm constantly drinking always on the toilet and taking paracetamol but here it. is still a week later, Hmm

Any advice? Tried going bed early last night but that didn't work either

I find that a small amount of caffeine helps. I'm generally not drinking coffee since bfp but if I have a decaf for coke on headache days it seems to help a bit.

How pg are you? Not to worry you, but I had a friend who had thumping headaches late in later pregnancy and it was a symptom of pre eclampsia. Might be worth going to the mw to get your blood pressure etc checked just in case. Best be on the safe side Smile

I would get your blood pressure checked today just in case it is pre eclampsia. Get it done asap just in case.

I have found that a 4head/ migrastick helps a bit, the other thing the doctor advised me was to increase my fluid intake up to 3litres plus a day - I have no idea why that works when I thought 2 litres was plenty but to be fair to him it has seemed to help.

I have horrible pregnancy migraines. Also 12 weeks. Ive been using 4head stick and putting a cold compress on my head and neck. I found they really helped. Also found washing my hair with mint and tea tree shampoo eased the pain. Still go to your gp/mw to have your bp checked.

it can be hormonal - mine are - and they come and go. I get them when my period is due and feel exactly the same on preggo headache days. I do find a decaff coffee helps (though I feel a bit bad about it) and drinking more water than I think I need. Same for me with paracetamol though, doesn't help and I don't like to take it knowing it makes no diff.

Went to doctors didn't check Bp just said drink more take paracetamol and it's part of being pregnantShock

I'll be drinking my weight in water and defo sat on loo all day lol

Soluble paracetamol work better something about not digesting properly when in pain. Along with cold compress on forehead.

I also found accupunture got rid of mine in a couple of sessions I had had them for nearly two weeks before going had the same issues in both pregnancys at the end of the first trimester.

I drank lots of mint tea when I was getting terrible headaches around the time I was ten to twelve weeks, it really helped.

Ginger ale usually takes the edge off a migrain. I'd give it a go.

I had really bad headaches in the first trimester and think it was linked to fruit juice consumption or sugary drinks...I know it might sound odd but there was a definite pattern. I just try and stick to water now as didn't drink much juice / fizz before pg but in first trimester wanted ginger beer and oj (not together! Lol!). My bp was fine but worth checking.

It's not always part if being pregnant. I had pre eclampsia last time and terrible headaches from week 8 til now 16 weeks. It was high Bp, I'm now on labetelol. Also get them to check your wee for protein. If all ok then it could be hormone surges and normally a good healthy baby. Hth x

I've had terrible headaches through weeks 9-11ish and they've just come back this week (14). I have mentioned it to doctors but they've just said it's hormones and I could possibly get my eyes checked but nothing to worry about. The only thing that helps is going to sleep.

I'm feeling this too. I've had a headache since Thursday evening so 48hrs now, slowly worsening and literally pounds every time I move. I'm 10+weeks and I'm too worried about the risks around taking paracetamol. I think I'm past the point where paracetamol would work now anyway, I would normally take migraleive for a headache this bad, and I think it would probably sort me out.

Any ideas if it's safe?

Inmybelly hope it has passed. I would suggest ringing nhs direct or you GP and asking advice if you feel the pain is too bad. I asked at the local pharmacist but the second I mentioned pregnancy they refused to give any advice and said see GP.

Yes it's gone now thankfully, lasted three days! Took one dose of paracetamol and used heat. I think it might have stemmed from a stiff neck because when I started putting heat on my neck it got loads better...

Phew!!

I've been told by midwife that it's safe to take codeine in pregnancy, so if paracetamol isn't touching it perhaps ask dr or pharmacist about that?
