Bloody support group - now more scared than ever!

Hi guys,
I went to a support group for mums expecting multiples last night and it wasent the happy reassuring group I had thought it would be.

The 3 mums there to discuss there delivery all had emergency c sections and had really bad bleeds that required blood transfusions!! Freaked me out and then some, and then then went on to compaire who had the most stitches and post op complications!!!.

I've been told that if I want to try a natural birth I will have to have an epi and to expect forceps!!! WTF

Is there anyone out there thats had a nice birth with twins?

I am a twin. First - epidurals are not a failure... In countries where they are denied it is seen as a major human Rights fail!

My mum had one for blood pressure rather than pain. Not twin related. Other than that, she told me she was surprised how straightforward it all was delivery wise (she had also been terrified by others saying she'd have dreadful tears etc). It was her 1st pregnancy too.

I'm a twin and our mum had us naturally, I think the main difference is to expect them a little earlier!

A very close friend of mine had twins (one was 6lb the other 7lb) - she had a natural water birth using only gas and air. No tears or cuts either. It can be done, but having an epidural or a C-section doesn't make the birth a failure or necessarily a less nice birth.

Hiya sorry they freaked you out so much. I only have one child but wanted to let you know that I had a bad bleed and required several transfusions after. So having single or multiple does not always mean one will be worse than the other. I also have two friends who had twins and they had straight forward births no bleeds or transfusions. As hard as it is you need to put it out of your mind and concentrate on you and your babies. As long as you know what your choices are should you need them you will be ok. Xxx

Isn't the reason that they like you to have an epidural in case the second twin is awkwardly positioned and you need to move to a section for the second one? Not sure about forceps though (although I had them with my first - a singleton- and it wasn't nearly as bad as some of the horror stories).

I think the birth stories in a group like that can be like in any other situation, the gorier the better!

I am having twins and have chosen to go for a planned section if I make it to 37 weeks.

Here are the things I know from research and discussions with consultant and midwife:

• they like you to have an epidural even if you plan to labour as fairly frequently twin 2 can turn breech during twin 1 labour and at that point the would recommend a section.
• if you go with hospital recommendations twin labours are often quite medicalised they like to keep monitors on in case either baby gets into distress.
• there are more likely to be more medical professionals in the room in the final stages of labour, in our trust there will be midwives, consultant and paediatricians for each baby.
• 50% twins are born early.

You are totally within your rights to pick the birth plan you want so don't be bullied.

I decided to go for the planned section but that is related not only to this twin pregnancy but my previous experiences. However, I have never had an operation in my life so it is scaring the crap out of me rather

I met a midwife at a baby group with twins, she said she had delivered them naturally at 39 weeks in a birthing pool no problems. They were her 3rd&4th kids though.

I'm sorry you've been through this. Sadly we live in a world where birth has become a medicalised event which is brilliant if you need it but doesn't have to be that way. Don't listen to anyone else as I promise you your labour will be your own story and not like anyone else's. Stay positive and you'll do brilliantly x

sorry - hi. I had twins mine are identical so was advisedan elcs.

I was so nervous. actually petrified but I wanted you to no my story.

I did bleed alot after BUT I never would of known I had. the c section was absolutely fine. I lied there with dh listening to music we chose chatting away and then 5 minutes later babies were here.

I didn't have a clue what waa Going in down that end. everyone was so calm and relaxed ot was only when I was in recovery and given something to help contract my uterus down that I realised I did. I didn't feel any different nothing.

I never had any problems after and I have other children at home to run after.

my friend delivered her non identical twins in a birthing pool no forceps no stitches nothing!

another friend of mine is due to have her twins next week by elcs as they are both breech.

Please don't worry either way you will be looked after so don't worry about anything that's there job and they are fully equipped for EVERYTHING.
