how many scans should you have?

I was told at my 20 week scan that I wouldn't be having another scan unless something was wrong. However 1 of my friends had a 32 week scan today and 1 of the women I work with had her 32 week scan booked at her 20 week scan. I know sometimes different areas offer different services but I was wondering if its common practice to have 1 at 32 weeks. Im 34 weeks and although im pretty sure everythings fine in there (judging by the mma practice hes got going on Smile ), it would be nice to see him again and make sure hes growing ok, its such a long time since 20 weeks. Just wondered if anyone else has been told no more scans

I've got my first growth scan next week (28 weeks). How much am I likely to see of the baby e.g. facial features, genitals etc? Or is it hard for untrained eyes to make anything out on later scans?

At 28 weeks you should see a fair bit -- that's the ideal time that 3D scanning places suggest you come in for a "purely out of interest" scan. Once you get much past that (say 32 weeks+) it's all getting a bit squished in there.

2 is the norm 1 at roughly 12weeks and 1 at roughly 20weeks.
I, however, am currently on scan number 7 and am getting a little tired and fed up of it all now! I am measuring small (though baby is growing fine) and baby is breech (refusing c-sec), they are been very cautious with me! Due next week, i have another on Friday.

Same here, one at 12 weeks to date how far along you are and another at 20 weeks. The only occasions where I or others I know have had more than that is where the was a specific reason, such as the baby measuring small. if you want another peek the only other option is to go private

I'm 36 , at 16+6 and had my FIRST scan at 16+2 this Monday, after the hospital lost or didn't receive my initial referral notes from midwife booking appt @ Gp surgery! ( I was also away for delayed honeymoon 8th-30th march so missed my window for Nuchal Transluceny test)
This is my 1st pregnancy and so far I feel I've not been given much info about appts etc etc. By NHS. They seem to just speak at you an awful lot and scrawl,on your notes with abbreviations that make little sense. Most of the stuff I know I've had to Google to,find out and am new to Mumsnet but finding it useful so far Grin.
We ended up having a private dating scan a week before we went away because of my notes getting "lost". ( no apology for that either!) but it was well worth it and finally made the pregnancy seem real hearing the heartbeat and seeing him/her stretching and wriggling (I shed a tear!)
At scan this week was told that I've just one more scan at 20 weeks and that's it unless More required medically........(west mids/Birmingham)
