Question for those who had elective section

I'm having my second elective section in november, first one went fine. Had appointment at clinic today, was seen by an SHO. I asked when I would meet the person who will conduct my section, she said, 'not until the day'. I have a few medical conditions that mean surgery is complicated for me... essentially,i bleed a lot and wounds dont heal well. I said that this is why i want to meet the person performing it so i could discuss my worries. They are insisting this is not possible, and suggest that i ask my consultant if she is willing to conduct it, when i see her in 8 weeks time.

Is it usual to meet/know the person who conducts a section?.. I knew weeks in advance last time (different hospital).

Its making me really anxious.

I had planned section with DD as she was breech I assumed my consulatant who I had seen at 36 weeks to perform CVS (think thats what its called) and he booked section would do it but ended up with another registrar who I met an hour before although he was lovely to DH who is very scared of hospitals and he chatted to him about football throughout the whole thing to stop him fainting!!

I think it varies hugely from hospital to hospital spinach. I really wanted to meet the person doing my second elective too, for similar reasons to you, and had to settle for the reassurance from my consultant that it would be someone from his own team and he would brief them in detail.
I would definitely raise the issue and press for an answer from your consultant. Mine was just not available for electives as he had recently been promoted to Head of the Department, but he did everything else he could to allay my fears

yes, done for medical reasons.

I'll probably need an elective this time around, for medical reasons. My regular OB expects to do it, but there is always a possibility she will be ill or unavailable - and she's told me this. She's also told me the names of others who might take her place under those conditions, but I haven't met them - and almost certainly won't unless its on the day.
I think if you have specific issues which make you nervous, you have every right to want to know more about who will be doing your section - even if you can't meet them in person, perhaps your OB can reassure you, tell you whats likely to happen and with whom, etc?

with both of mine I met the surgeon just prior to surgery.

However esp elective c-section 2nd time - they were well aware of my history and spoke about it as they were putting the spidural in.

I did meet the anaethetist at the pre op clinic and she went through my history as well with me.

But that is here in Aus.

1st one was an emergency c-section and there really wasn't a lot of time to discuss much although we had a bit of a chat prior to the surgery just to put my mind at ease.
