Not managed to get contractions going, but had a sweep followed by an induction. IMO a sweep won't do anything if you're not already on the way naturally. The midwife should be able to tell you how effaced and hopefully dilated you are when she does the sweep.

The more favourable your cervix is (effaced/dilated) the more likely the sweep is to get things going.

Good luck!

Had induction with ds1 and had another planned for thursday with ds2 but waters broke night before. I tend to think sweeps only work is almost there anyway. I had 3 last week or so alone. I would ask to have them if possible but be prepared for them not to work. Keep relaxed about prospect of induction as stress with block body's hormones needed for labour. My induction was fine, it's not the 'bad' option. Hope all goes well. Oh and if feel like getting symptoms changes then i'd get on your ball and go for walks, worked for me last week. Good luck.

Thank you both for your advice. I'm going to try and religiously get on my gym ball each evening for at least 10 minutes. I think it sort of helped last might as it caused a heck of a lot of pressure in my pelvis and bladder! been trying to walk but my hips, back and groin are so painful Sad i'm resorting to cleaning the house bit by bit each day. I really want to avoid being induced Confused

I had 3 sweeps last time and spent 11 days on my birthing ball. I still was induced, it was a great experience. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do to start contractions. They will happen when they happen.

Just remember you don't have to be induced.

you don't have to be induced thoigh? I declined and let things take their course. 3 failed sweeps n went into labour naturally at 42+3

I think you can realistically go 2 weeks overdue, any more time after that and they'd want to moniter you every day, that was the case with my last child anyway.

Unfortunately nothing but hormones will get labour started :( induction isn't so bad, what is it that you're worried about?
