Hello. I'd really like to get some books to read now that I'm nearly 12 weeks. Can any of you lovely ladies recommend any good reads for a first time mum? Much appreciated. Xx

Nicole Croft's Good Birth Companion helped me a lot when preparing for labour. Wonder Weeks is a great book for understanding babies. And First Time Parent by Lucy Atkins is a good practical guide without the preaching you get in some parenting books.

I liked First Time Parent by Lucy Watkins, and also Your New Pregnancy Bible by Dr Anne Deans

Expecting Better. Perfect if you want to understand the why behind all the rules thrown at you during pregnancy!

Books about pregnancy, or about babies, or both?

What to expect when you're expecting. I really like the straightforward, factual nature of this one. I found it hugely informative, and for that reason, very reassuring.

I liked the format so much that we then bought What to expect the first year, and I'd recommend that highly too.

Best of luck!

My Mother-in-law subscribed to Mother and Baby magazines for me which I found just the right balance between information and comfort reading.

I would say don't swamp yourself down with baby text books, enjoy some lovely fiction while you can!

Victoria Hislop - The Island is one of my favourites, and pure escapism :)

What to expect when you're breastfeeding...and what if you can't (Clare Byam-Cook)

The continuum concept (Jean Liedloff)

Normal fiction

The Food of Love by Kate Evans (about breastfeeding) is great. Anything by Ina May Gaskin.

The Rough Guide to Pregnancy.

For pregnancy I used apps and the internet.
I am currently reading what to expect-babies first year and I have a 2 week old DS. It's really good! Answers LOADS of my questions. Informative and reassuring.
