Moving ribs

When I went for a bra fitting the other week the lady doing it asked me if my ribs had started moving yet.
WTF? They haven't. But how does that work? is it just the baby's movements causing them to shift? I'm 6 months along.

As your baby (and placenta and fluids) get bigger, they literally squash your internal organs into a higher position in your body than they would normally occupy. There are all sorts of lovely diagrams on the internet. As all those things move about, they tend to force your ribs outwards, so lots of women go up in chest size on bras. I went from 30/32 to 36 each time.

Oh OK, that makes sense. I got the impression the bra lady meant they shifted throughout the day, which is what seemed weird to me.

I was a 30 back before getting pregnant, now I'm a 34 back, so it's clearly it's already happened. She should have known this as she knew my previous bra size and fitted me for the new one. Strange.

Ah, ok, so she just wasn't being very clear. Glad the explanation was helpful.

No, babies can kick hard, but thankfully not hard enough to actually make your ribs bounce about during the day Smile

Thank Christ for that! I thought she expected me to feel my ribs moving. I was faintly horrified.
Well, really horrified. ;)
