Baby wardrobe advice (thrilling thread)

OK so it's pretty boring but I wonder if I can pick the brains of any already-parents out there? I think that any wardrobe we get for the baby will need more shelves than rails because of baby grows etc, does that sound right? What did you find more useful?

IMO opinion you don't need a huge/long rail for kids clothes as you can have 2 rails in there. So i would recommend a rail and shelves combo. Or else you could get some of those hanging shelves thingies (like this).

My dd is 14 months and I've only just (as in yesterday..) hung up a few of her summer dresses. Everything else is in draws! All baby stuff is designed to not crease, so it's not really a problem, plus it's a lot easier to put away!! I'd invest in a tonne of draws and a small hanging space..

I don't think we hung any of ds's baby stuff up!! Maybe his outdoor coat but that was all.

Don't waste money on 'baby' furniture. A chest of normal drawers is far more useful

We're going to Ikea at the weekend to pick this up- my SIL recommeded it to me, said it was fantastic- mostly drawer space and a tiny bit of hanging rail which she uses for coats mainly..

Chicamomma, that's exactly what we've got in our baby's nursery! Don't be surprised that l when you get it you might not be able to get the coloured cupboard doors. We went with white but picked up green ones at a later date x

I did wonder that alright Cezzie, if they'd have the coloured doors in stock- i love the blue but i aint making another trip out to Ikea so if it needs to be white, white it is!!
I take it it's really good then? Quality is fantastic SIL says, really sturdy and easy to use.. as in, really easy to get the drawers in and out- you know the way some of the cheap ones are 'stiff' and awkward!

I got the mamas and papas omni wardrobe (2nd hand from eBay and more than a bargain!) and it's perfect.
Half shelving which I use baskets in and the other half hanging with two rails one above the other. Have used since birth and use very day. Love it.
Hopefully should last us a long time. I'd never spend the original price on it but I do love it.

I've got a wardrobe with a couple of shelves in that came with the set that I bought. Im just treating it as a storage cupboard tbh, got nothing that needs hanging. At the moment all of DHs shirts are hanging in there as he has lost all of his storage to having a baby!

I don't think you need a wardrobe for kids, you need a chest of drawers. My eldest is 5 and still doesn't have a hanging rail.

I love the half wardrobe half drawer unit we got a few years back for our baby's room.

I hang dresses, blouse-y tunics up for her on that but agree drawers below hold tonnes.

The wardrobe wasnt really used to hang stuff until she was about a year (prior to that, used it to dump things in at the bottom).

Would recommend a wardrobe.

ChicamMomma your SIL is right. The STUVA set is really good. My DD is still using hers and she is 3 now. We have the same height hanging space as the one in the picture but her dressed are getting too long now. But the good thing about ikea is that it can all be mix and match so I can get the full height doors and a couple of baskets and turn it into a taller wardrobe.

I'm going to get the same one for number 2.

I use a wardrobe with 2 rails and a chest of drawers, have done since birth and I hang a lot of stuff up.

I find it useful to hang current stuff on the top rail and coats plus things to grow into on the bottom.

Drawers are used for vests, sleepsuits, socks and PJs plus the bottom one for blankets, muslins etc.

I find it easier to know what's in there when it's hanging, although for the first 3 months I suppose he lived in sleepsuits so we didn't get through 'outfits' like we do now.

I really don't think space to hang things is needed in a nursery. We have an expedit bookshelf from Ikea, I bought drawer and door unit for 6 cubes in it and 4 boxes for the bottom. 6 of the cubes are open and currently displaying toys, picture frame, etc. there's loads of space in it and it looks great!

I might end up getting more drawer units, but so far so good!

I found this out when I got a mamas and papas set, the wardrobe only had 2 rails didn't have any drawers or shelves, but I easily solved this by buying some nice lined wicker baskets to go in the bottom for the vests, hats, booties, bibs ect; and then I bought loads of baby hangers from the pound shop and hung up all baby grows and outfits :-) worked out pretty well in the end x

We just had a chest of drawers. Then put a bookshelf inthe bedroom with two wicker baskets on for sleepsuits amd bodysuits.

Dd is 2.3 and still just has that. Probably get her a full size adult wardrobe when she gets a full size single bed.

Wispa that looks great. Im expexcting dc2 and think im going to get one of those for our bedroom for babys stuff (will eventually put both dcs in our room but not til dc2 is about a year). We have a big bedroom so planning on using it as a divide.

We chose it because its quite Big and didnt want to buy a small wardrobe knowing it wouldn't last (I think its the maderia range or something similar)
It has 2 shelves inside and 2 big drawers

In our playroom we have ikea childrens wardrobes (I can't rember the name) but you can select what goes in them so could start with more shelves then switch to rails later
