Discharge - tell me the truth!

On the 'things they never mention' thread there have been lots of references to discharge. And last week my friend whispered to me 'oh, and the discharge - they never tell you about that' but we were in company and she refused to be drawn.
What happens to it? What do I need to know? is it a pregnancy thing or post-birth? Or both? Lots of it? None of it? Funny colour? smell? All of the above?
Please do not spare any details. I'm a 13wk first-timer and I need the gruesome truth!
I know I can rely on you ladies - many thanks,
Pumpkin

Pregnancy thing.

Quantity is what shocks - panty liners become a daily necessity esp towrds the end of the pg.

A distinctive but not offensive smell IYKWIM.

Yum!
