Thank you presents for midwives?

Has anyone done this before, or do you have any nice ideas of what they might like?

With DS I always meant to send her a thank you card with a pic of DS, but descended into PND gloopiness and never got around to it.
She was so fab, I still feel bad for not thanking her properly, nearly three years on!

I'm 33wks with DS2, will be going to the same hospital, and figured I should prep something in advance this time! :)

I bought small tubes of expensive hand cream - l'occitane.

Hi, congratulations on your pregnancy! I had my second child in October & although not an original idea, I bought a tin of Quality Street chocolates for each ward I ended up having contact with (midwife-led side, transfer to consultant unit, post-natal ward & baby in neonatal unit for a short time). I also wrote cards for each "set" of staff. I wrote them just before discharge so that they were heartfelt & relevant rather than just a bog standard "cheers for the birth experience".

I hope your upcoming labour & birth are manageable, short & stress free & that your recovery post-birth is easy & speedy.

Cupcakes are always nice, you could get a naice box made and it's not too expensive. They always go down well!

The handcream idea is good too

I made a hamper up for the community midwives after my home birth, lots of chocolates, biscuits, juice, nice coffee etc I knew it would come in handy , I had the same midwives all the way through and when I dropped it off they where so greatful

Can midwives accept gifts over a certain value?

When I have pfb I thought
About buying them a take away! But I will definitely buy nice tea coffee and biscuits!

They're not supposed to accept gifts so it should be kept on the down low..

Cakes and biscuits etc are fine though because they're shared out

I like the idea of lovely hand cream - they must have to use that awful hand sanitiser constantly, it's v drying.

And cupcakes/biscuits. Who doesn't love cupcakes! Plus I can trust DH to buy good ones

Tempted to find out if the lady who delivered DS is still working there, she'd only just qualified then.

I didn't buy anything for the midwife team as tbh I didn't really have much contact with them in my labour!!

We bought the scbu team a huge box of chocolates and a card though.

I had an amazing midwife and sent her a hamper with biscuits, chocolates, jam, coffee etc.

I wrote a card to mw who delivered ds and also to the ward we stayed on overnight, and gave both a box of chocolates (think they were celebrations!) nothing too elaborate, but i think getting a card to say thank you probably is well received.

Tbh when I was a midwife the gifts that meant most were cards and a photo of the baby just after birth.

I have around a dozen photos of mothers and babies that I was given. I treasure them.

The scary thing is that the "babies" are now all teenagers and older. Makes me feel old .

It is nice to get a photo and a card, most midwives do store them for life. It really makes a difference to get a card with some nice words in it when you are busy and tired and demoralised.... Because it is a public job we are not supposed to be given money or alcohol (not that the rules are really enforced by anyone) but hand cream, snack hamper etc all sound great and won't be over the top. There is a chance that she may not be on shift when you bring your present so avoid perishables like cupcakes or she may never end up benefitting from it....

We made up a hamper of naice tea and coffee with 6 mugs saying 'Keep Calm, I'm a Midwife'.

Midwives do like personal cards from people they have looked after, and do often keep them as a happy memory.
We do appreciate gifts if that's how you like to express thanks
Nice tea & biscuits, or a bottle of nice wine, or a nice hand cream is a great idea.
I have known other midwives get a free meal from restaurant owners or a salon treatment for the same reason.
A box of celebration or quality street rarely lasts 30 minutes on a hospital ward as they go down so well!

I'm a midwife. I never expect presents but hand cream and tea/biscuits are a lovely idea. To be honest though I love a thoughtful hand written card, especially with a picture. I treasure these cards most.

not a midwife but do wok in mat hospital, hand cream is alway lovely as we all have hands like 90 year old women, you can also never go far wrong with choccies.

Not a midwife but my mate is ; she says she loves getting cards and photos ; and a women wrote to her supervisor once saying how great she was - that was pretty special and she gets to keep it in her portfolio (or whatever midwives have)

My aunt is a midwife in the hospital where I had my DC. She told me not to give chocolates or biscuits etc because most of the staff are super health conscious and won't eat them!!
I gave in a large fruit hamper.

I always see them munching on biscuits on OBEM though

Foodie your aunt has evidently never seen a load of midwives around a tine of Celebrations . Talk about vultures lol.....(been there and done it)

Haha I haven't met too many health conscious midwives.

I took a few boxes of chocolates for all of the HCPs on the ward.

I wish I could have spoken to my midwife properly but was induced and was contracting every 1-2 minutes so couldn't even maintain eye contact. I managed to speak to the lovely midwife who took over after DS arrived but the MW who laboured with me was fine before I could say thank you!
