PG Constipation? Top Tip

I tried effing EVERYTHING when I was pg and nothing worked. So I keep meaning to post this, but the secret is.... Grape Nuts. Bizarre name - not grapes, not nuts, but you'll find it in the cereal aisle in a small box, usually hidden at the bottom of the shelving. Really high in fibre and the bonus is high in iron and folic acid. It's a bit crunchy, so leave it to stand with milk for a while. Good with a chopped banana or blueberries. And much better tasting than Bran Flakes or (heave) All Bran.. Worked a treat and I still eat it now, three years on.

I've found sunsip prune juice (the strongest) works if I drink half a small tumbler before bed every day.

Bran flakes and all bran didn't work for me, but fruit n fibre did. I figured it was the dried fruit and just started to eat dried apricots and apples every day. All fine since.

I'm sure All Bran is just bits of twigs.

Do you know what works for me? Kiwi fruit. Not instantly obviously, but within a day my system seems to be moving again. Has worked every time so far....

Have just had my grape nuts delivered by sainsburys .... Here's hoping

Just to second the vote for Grape Nuts. Works a charm, and rather tasty in my opinion as CW says with fruit. It's an American cereal I grew up with.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds much tastier than other options. Mind you, a couple of days on lactulose sorted me out and I've not had to use it since. Will hoard the bottle for post childbirth...

Loopylouu · 19/03/2014 11:22

Lactulose has been my best friend for the past few weeks. I am due to have a section so I am taking it religiously and will continue to do so until a couple of weeks post op - I didn't after my first CS and that first poo will haunt me forever!!

Interesting- must seek the Grape Nuts out in Tesco tonite. Bunged up to be damned this week. Have not been drinking enough water mind, which will not be helping. Currently glugging a glass of prune juice. When i dont go every day i get mini braxton hicks- or at least what i imagine BH are like- period cramps that come and go. But it's nowt more than constipation pains i'm pretty sure!
