Scarlet fever?

I just had a letter from dd2s school saying they've had a number of cases of scarlet fever. They've really played it down ie usually not dangerous but occasionally complications and given symptoms and how long to stay off after they start getting treatment.
The thing is, I'm 13 weeks pregnant and have only ever heard of this as being how Laura ingles wilder's sister went blind so a bit worried. Has anyone else come across this in the modern age?

I had it as a child and all I remember is the doctor telling my mum I had to have a week off of school. I wasn't particularly ill with it that I remember - sorry, not much help!

Nhs guidance says that there's no evidence scarlet fever poses any risk to pregnant women or the baby, so don't worry!

They recommend that if you're heavily pregnant you should let your healthcare team know if you've been in contact with somebody with scarlet fever, but even that's just so they know you could develop it (as I think otherwise the rash etc could get mistaken for something else).

All I can add is that there does seem to be an increase in this illness amongst school aged children at the moment: it's caused by a bacteria called streptococcus which can live in our throats normally.

Thanks for the reassurance, I was sure they would have to be a bit more cautious if there was likely to be a real problem but worry as always.

My son had scarlet fever a few weeks ago when I was around 22 weeks pregnant. Midwife and Gp told me there was no concerns for me or baby.
