I'm 34 weeks pregnant with number 4 and since last night the left side of down below has been sore and swollen, i've had a look(as best you can with great big football in way!) and can't see anything but does look swollen. Does anyone know what it could be? Thanks.

Sound like you may have a varicose vein ... my friend had them (in her bits) when she was pregnant with her children ...
I was almost glad I had SPD
Sorry ... not sure what you can do about from ice maybe?
Hopefully someone far more useful will come along soon

I had the same with number 4 - just the one side. It's a varicose vein and my mw promised me it would disappear as soon as I'd had the baby and it did. It's the pressure of the baby pressing down on the blood supply down there

Yes, sounds like a varicose vein to me (although I found my bits just swelled alarmingly in pregnancy anyway ). I think pelvic floor exercises can help, but you will find it will go away by itself , although it might not be until the baby is here. If it is really painful and hot to the touch, I would go to the doctor as it is possible to get a DVT in your groin area - it might be worth checking it out just in case. Sorry you're suffering - the indignities of pregnancy, eh?

Does anyone know if the vein thing is painful and what i could take for it?

Definitely mention it to her, and yes, unfortunately varicose veins can hurt whereever they are.

Try and float lots in the pool/sea when you're on holiday, as that will relieve some of the pressure and may ease the swelling a bit.

If it's varicose veins do they just get bigger? My left side down below is getting bigger and more painful. Don't know whether to go doc's today? Sorry to keep going on.

I don't know what can happen with varicose veins, but if you are swelling lop-sidedly, then I think that's a good reason to get it checked out - especially if the pain is increasing and you have a holiday planned.

Poor you!

Just to let you know went to the doc's and it's a gland cyst! I'm on antibiotics, hopefully it will be cleared before we go away. Thanks for all the advice.
