Hi everyone,
I'm in for a sweep tomorrow and don't know what to expect and don't know what happens if it doesn't work :/ confused and feeling scared as I don't know what I'm in for..
Any advise would be great :).

Thank you x

Hi vic, I can't offer any advice, but I can be a sweep buddy, as I have one booked for tomorrow too, at 9.30. I am 39 weeks, and booked for full induction next Monday. The sweeps (I have another booked for Thurs if this one doesn't work) are in the hope that I can avoid that.

Had one with DD2 and would definitely recommend. No, it's not the best fun I've ever has but it worked (sweep at 6pm and in labour the next day) and was uncomfortable rather than painful. Plus, I apparently have a posterior cervix and so the MW had to 'walk it forwards' to do the sweep. If you are 'normal ' it might be all v straightforward! It lasts moments and I felt the effects almost immediately.

One experience only but I was so anxious about it beforehand and it worked so well I like to share to others who may be apprehensive!

Good luck both of you.

I had three but they all did something. The first one got me from completely closed to 2cm dilated, the second made me have show the same day and the third started my contractions. I think he would have happily stayed in there a few more weeks without them.

Hey, Im seeing mw tomorrow for planned sweep. Never had one with other 2 babies so wasn't sure whether to or not and feeling a bit scared,, but think I will now. I'm 40+3 and very fed up. ....unless anything happens tonight.
Good luck everyone.

It's a little bit like a smear, just takes a bit longer.
Mine didn't hurt, and you could always ask them to stop if you didn't like it.
I had two at 41 weeks, and I'm pretty sure the second helped my waters to break a few hours later. Good luck! You're almost there!

louloubellamozzarella · 10/03/2014 19:53

Had my first sweep today (41+1). I won't lie, it was pretty uncomfortable - not much worse than a smear though. And it was over v quickly. Just take some deep breaths and it will be fine. Just hoping mine works soon now!

Can they break your waters by doing it ?

Could they break your waters by mistake by giving you a sweep?
And also I have had my show and been in very slow labour for over a week now at one point I was contracting every 5 minutes but they stopped and I was sent home :( x

It's possible, but the midwife who I saw said it's happened to her only twice in ten years of practice. I think she set mine off on a slow leak, but at 41+4 I was ready...
