The other day (wish I could remember if it was Thursday or Friday, think it was Thursday!), I was laying down and coughed and felt what can only be described as "ripping" (although I'm sure it was just the sensation and not the actual act itself) and then when I tried to get up, I had it again, same place. It took my breath away, but five minutes later, everything was fine, and you would never know that I had felt it.

Anyhow yesterday and today, my bump feels like it's been kicked all around from the inside, and I can feel almost like a sprained sensation when I walk, which is particularly prevalent on the side where the pain was a few days before.

I have had no bleeding and bump has been kicking about as per normal.

So, do you think this is just round ligament pain, or something more sinister? I was just wondering if anyone had had this before. I have had something similar, but not as painful as the cough/getting up episode!

Any advice appreciated! Thank you.

I don't know Smanfer ..sorry I can't help ..bumping for you.

lucykate · 13/08/2006 08:51

how many weeks are you?

i used to get bad round ligament pain with both of my pregnancies, it can be quite worrying as its such a sharp pain, bit like a stitch. sounds like that could be what you are experiencing, but if you are worried, always get it checked out by your midwife

oh god! i get that type of thing all the time in this preg (no2)
i get a 'stitch' like feeling all over it if i walk too far.
it hurts when i cough or sneeze- it feels like hes gonna shoot out.
i also get the ripping you describe, even when im moving gently sometimes.
all the pains ive reported to midwife she says are fine. im just like you tho and even tho she says that i still worry about it!

I had that too at around 20-22 weeks but if you're worried, check it out with your MW.

Hi again,

Finding it slightly uncomfortable to walk now - so either it's getting better (ie seems to be knitting together), or it's getting worse.

Really think I've overdone it ... (

How bad was your round ligament pain? Am a bit concerned because it's all under my bump and very low down. I can feel the "sprain" when I raise my legs.

Baby has been kicking today which is good.

Any further advice, please?

Will probably be ringing the midwife tomorrow ...

I had a horrible ripping sensation with dd2, I reckon (harhar) that it was cause I'd managed to vaguely tone my stomach muscles again! thus on more than one occassion when my bump grew, it stretched everything with it, ouch and ergh at the sound of it all giving way

Tenalady · 13/08/2006 21:53

It sounds like it could be ligament pain. In the latter stages of my pregnancy I twisted to get out of bed and thought I was going into labour. A ripping pain at the side of the stomach and I couldnt get up or breath because of the pain.

I eventually got to hossy had a thorough examination and was told I had moved awkwardly and had pulled a ligament.

Blooming painful isnt it?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 13/08/2006 21:56

It sounds exactly like SPD (symphasis pubis dysfunction).

Speak to your midwife to get yourself a referral to see a physiotherapist for some advice about moving, sleeping etc. She might also give you a maternity belt or girdle.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I rang the midwife this morning and she seemed unperturbed. I was told to take paracetamol and to buy some support pants (have googled, how expensive?!). She has told me how to get up without straining my muscles (ie rolling out of bed) and recommended I go to one of their posture classes (althoug this won't be until 13th September).

Bump is active again this morning, so all seems well there. It's just me that's walking around like a geriatric!
