Recommendations for best pregnancy vitamins please!

I just found out today that I am four weeks pregnant and my Dr advised me to take a pregnancy mulitivitamin. Can anyone recommend a brand they are using? I noticed Pregnacare itself has several, including one that offers Omega 3 and not sure what to get! Thank you.

if you want small ones get the seven seas trying for a baby ones. they are usually 3 for a tenner in asda. my gp said they were just as good for pregnancy and as i say they are the smallest on the market..

I think they're all much of a muchness. I used the Superdrug own brand and they were fine. There are two kinds - one with fish oil/omega 3 and one without.

Seven Seas I have found don't constipate me as much as pregnacare or Tesco own brand top tmi tip there. :)

I use the pregnacare normal ones and also the mumomega omega 3 tablets and I swear by them. I've had severe hyperemesis since week 7/8 (27 weeks now) but I've never once been anaemic or had any other vitamin or mineral deficiency, which has amazed our consultant!

Pregnacare made me feel so sick, and I read up that a lot of women experienced the same!

I changed to Seven Seas mum to be with no problem

Ooh, thanks for the info. I ordered the Pregnacare normal ones earlier from Amazon. They were so cheap. I read that the Omega 3 tablets you could get with them were v. big and hard to swallow so that I could just take a different brand with them. I did read about people being sick with them so at least now I know why! If it happens, I will change to Seven Seas.

BioCare are great and they're made and packaged in a way so that they don't lose any of their nutrients (they use all raw ingredients as well which have higher nutritional value). You can get them on www.totallynourish.com

I just take folic acid and vitamin d. Not sure there's much evidence for anything else? I just buy the cheapest ones, they have the same ingredients as the ones with fancy packaging.

If you start feeling very sick and its hard to get tablets down, the individual folic acid ones are tiny and you could perhaps manage that if not a normal vitamin- folic acid is the one you don't want to miss.

Do you mean you are going to take a normal pregnacare and a different omega 3- if so be very careful about taking omega 3 that isn't specifically for pregnant women. Fish oil is fine, but fish liver oil is full of vitamin A which is dangerous, so many omega 3 supplements would not be OK.

Also I tend to get very constipated in PG- some pregnancy tablets have 50% rda of iron, some have 100%- if I'm struggling it helps me to take a brand that only had 50% for a bit.

I'm also a big fan of just vit D and folic acid. Zero evidence for anything else and the iron screwed up my digestive system when I tried pregnacare.

Thanks for the advice ladies. I think I will leave the omega 3 and try and get it in my diet. I will watch out for sickness with the Pregnacare and maybe revert back to just vit d and folic acid if I need to. Dorothea, what does of vit D do you take when pregnant? I think I have some which is 200% RDA somewhere at home. I don't want to take too much?

Sorry if I caused any confusion, the mumomega omega 3 tablets I take are specifically for prenant women, as Armadale says, don't take anything that isn't pregnancy specific!

I'm taking Seven seas and have got on very well with them so far, no sickness and only a bit of tiredness so I think they are perking me up a little bit.

I take the pregnacare omega 3, can't really compare to anything else but can confirm that the omega 3 capsules are horrible to swallow and always give me nasty fish oil reflux a few mins later!
