Quick Question re Midwife Appt

Hi, I've just received an appointment to see the community midwives and on the letter it says to bring along a urine sample - my question is, what do I bring it in?? Can you get sample pots from the chemist?

I tried ringing them but I only get an answering service. I guess I can go and get something from the doctor's surgery but hate having to explain myself to the receptionist!.

Any clean leakproof pot will do. They'll give you a special pot at the appointment and you get to keep it to use every time.

The smallest vessel you can find - no vast jars or bottles, it would be too embarrassing!

when you arrive, ask the receptionist for a urine sample pot and go and have a pee!

MerlinsBeard · 11/08/2006 19:36

drink lots so that when u get there you need the loo, when you sign in ask reception for a sample pot

I used to be like you, quite embarrased about taking my samples in.
Now at 39 weeks not only have I got to the point where I couldn't care but I have to go in with a silver foil bowl because I can't see when I pee so never end up with it in the sample bottle.

I think Schneeebly peed in a lock and lock tuppaware box to store her pee for when she tested for pg, so that might be an idea!

I had a patient once who brought their urine sample in an empty vodka bottle!!!!!

You can get a smaple bottle from your doctor's just ask for a white top one.

Empty jamjar good, as its large enough to pee into and easy to clean out pre-pee (I'd swill it out with boiling water, just to make sure you don't get any false positives for sugar in your urine..).

LOL about not being able to see! Despite needing the loo ALL THE TIME at the moment, could I wee on the stick at my last appointment last week?! No wee, no aim!!

Cheers for all your replies! I had visions of me bringing it in a tupperware box & it sloshing around everywhere! (sorry not a very nice thought)

lol at the vodka bottle

Thanks again
