When baby drops

This is a really stupid question but will i feel the baby drop? He is showing no signs currently grrrr but wasnt sure whether i wld know when it happens?

Im 39 weeks now with dc3 and the baby has most definitly dropped, can tell because i have more pressure/pain in my pubic area along with swollen lady parts and a couple of lovely piles thrown into the bargain!
Also my bump shape has changed, sitting noticably lower so that oher people have commenented in it in the last few days. Then there is the sciatica that has got alot worse!
Imo i think you will definitly know when he decided to drop.
How far along are you mummytobe?

I personally didn't notice because I was the size of a bloody house but my dp did, he said my bump was sagging....... why am I having another child with him?!

I'm 36+5 and baby has dropped. I saw my midwife a few weeks ago and she said he was now in birthing position and when I had a growth scan last week they really struggled to measure his head circumference because of how low down his head is in my pelvis. My bump is also more saggy downwards as opposed to sticking out in front of me. Also, as Peace said, I have a lot more odd feelings/sensations in my pubic area now, just generally achey and feeling heavy.

I am 39+2 and my bump is still sitting high, i havent noticed any new pains or any more discomfort.
Beany that sounds like something my dp wld also say!
My last mw appt sge said he was still sitting high but there was plenty of time left, this was last week and stillnothing! i know they will come when ready but it doesnt feel like he has any intentions yet. Can i do anything to help him drop or is it jst a case of waiting?

Hi mummy, unfortunately you just have to wait. Some babies don't "drop" until your in labour, there is no rhyme or reason, some do some don't. My first dropped at around 37 wks then the next 2 I carried low and they engaged or dropped during labour. I'm carrying low again this time with twins. Twin 1 is low enough that they have struggled to measure head for the past 2 scans now and I'm only 25wks.

Neither of mine ever did. Well, presumably at some point in labour they did! Never engaged pre labour either.

Thank you slightly and insane, i wasnt sure if the baby had to drop before labour etc etc so its good to know thats not the case. Its uncomfortable though lol

Mummytobe, just to confirm i saw mw today and i was right as dc is fully engaged as id suspected! Its somthing you will most likely be sure to feel if it happens prior to labour.

Thanks peacenquiet, i definately have a high bump still with no signs of dropping. Pleased to hear your lo is engaged and ready to go!
