Hi all, this is my first pregnancy and I am finding it really hard to get motivated. About anything. I dont have any symptoms other than this and the bursts of crying. I'm really happy about the baby and other than normal new mum worries I dont have anything to be sad about! Is this normal?

How far along are you? I'm 19 weeks and have been feeling the same way as you a lot.

I've googled antenatal depression as I have had periods of feeling so low I've thought that it couldn't possibly be normal, but then other times (like today) I feel fine. But yesterday and the day before I couldn't stop crying all day!

I think it may just be your hormones but if you are feeling more sad than not, it may be worth seeing your GP about depression as there are things they can do to help such as CBT.

Having a baby should be the happiest time in your life (I keep telling myself) so it's not fair to you to be feeling miserable. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon Thanks

Thank you so much, I feel much better after your advice! I'm only just 6 weeks. Probably I'm just overwhelmed! :-)

I know you can't live in regret but my biggest regret in life is failing to see how depressed i was when i was pregnant. I just want to go back in time and shake myself and march me to the GP

That being said, i think a lot of it is just normal and loads of my mates have felt very teary when pregnant and then been fine once the baby is born and hormones are back to normal.

But if it's constant, it's been going on a while and it's compounded with stressy circumstantial stuff if it can get totally out of hand.

I hope that helps in any way. Just keep an eye on it, and maybe keep a mood diary and mention it to a loved one if you feel it becoming a problem xx

...and don't torture yourself with 'I should be so happy and grateful to be pregnant, what's wrong with me' etc etc. In my experience, you only hear people talk about how happy and excited they feel when pregnant as no one admits to feeling like crap alot of the time. In fact, pregnancy for LOADS of women is physically and emotionally a really unsettling and not altogether pleasant time. But it doesn't last forever! x

My pregnancy has been a lovely happy time for me myself but my family have ruined the experience for me by not being involved or genuinely happy for me to the point now where we are not speaking so i am finding it a real time of highs and lows all mixed into one! I feel for you xx

thanks for all your kind words. I am feeling very up and down and had a huge burst of tears today! I think its true that as pregnant mums we put so much pressure on ourselves to "perform" rather than just saying how we feel. I know it will all be worth it soon :-)

noor I am seven weeks into my third pregnancy and the first few months are pretty shitty for everyonei reckon. Tiredness, lack of appetite or being turned off some foods, and the mental overload of thinking about the pregnancy and motherhood is incredibly draining.

You are growing a human. Something youve never done before. It is no mean feat. Take care of yourself - lots of rest, slack a bit at work if needs be, and just try and look after you for a while.

It isnt how it is in the films, but then thats true of eberything.
