Should the fundal height measurement correspond with the amount of weeks?

I've just been checking over my MW notes and although nothing has been said, I have noticed that the last 6 weeks that the fundal height measurement is lower than the amount of weeks I am.
Is this true that they are supposed to be the same?

For example on wednesday they have measured me at 38cm but was 39 weeks and 3 days.
Just wondering if the baby is small or if it means nothing at all and I need to occupy my time better

Ahh right.
Like I said nothing has been said directly to me but the other reason I was bothered was that now its coming up to dday I hope they haven't got dates wrong and I'll be still sat here another 2 weeks!!

I think all that measuring is abit hit and miss on the midwives part and not an exact science. I was told I was measuring small for dates towards the end with my ds, but MW said it was because I am tall and bump doesn't stick out as much (or something to that effect). When he was born he was 8.5lbs and about 53cm so definitely not small

They are supposed to be roughly the same, but a little bit either way isn't significant. A centimetre under certainly doesn't have any deep significance.

Ahh feel a bit better now!
