If anyone says the following to me ONE more time, I will kill them:

  • not long now
  • oh when he's out, you'll be missing pregnancy
  • you think that's bad you should insert something I don't care about here
  • oh I reckon he'll be at least 'x' days overdue
  • AND THE WORST: you know that lady whose due date is exactly the same as yours... She had her baby.

I've got SPD and despite being very reluctant to take painkillers at the best of times I've been prescribed codeine which is helping immensely.

MIL's response? (After essentially denying SPD exists throughout my last pregnancy) "You don't want to be taking too many of them you know."

Really? You think?!

ToriaPumpkin · 04/03/2014 12:48

This, by the way, from the woman who greets every sniffle and mild ache with "Have you taken something for it?"

Enidosaurus · 04/03/2014 14:47

My (Actually lovely) MIL today: 'any contractions yet?' Aargh

No, because I would have called you to come bad look after DD while we go to hospital fgs!
I am very grumpy and ranty today.

bigbangfan · 04/03/2014 16:04

Once I started to feel human enough to eat again around 11 weeks I got on the scales to see if I'd put on any weight yet. I was thrilled to find out I hadn't and after coming out the bathroom asked DH how much weight he thought I had put on already... the repsonse was "I don't know, a stone? Maybe two?"! Talk about being sent crashing back down to earth with a bang! Angry

ithoughtofitfirst · 04/03/2014 16:17

bigbangfan that made me lol

TruJay · 04/03/2014 17:29

Totally agree with u all and what baffles me is when the comments come from women who have been pregnant also and should know how chuffing annoying it is!

i even had one mum on the school run come up to me and ask if i had had the baby yet? The fact that i was pushing my 2 week old daughter along in her pram, i thought was a pretty big give away personally Confused i just said no, i'm just practicing with the pram. To which she then replied oh ok and trotted off! Hmm people are crazy lol

PterodactylTeaParty · 04/03/2014 18:00

The daily "Any news yet?" texts/phone calls/emails/Facebook messages. I would tell you, argh. And I am grumpy enough about being 40+2 with no signs of labour and a baby that hasn't even engaged yet - the last thing I want to do is keep having "nope, still no baby" conversations!

TheBookofRuth · 05/03/2014 07:39

Can I join in as even though I'm not even close to full term several people in the last few days have looked at my bump and said "oooh, won't be long now!"

I'm 19 weeks...

Seff · 05/03/2014 07:54

My bump grew lots very quickly, people were always surprised I had so long left. And now I'm 39 weeks and people say to me "really? it seems like you've been pregnant forever!" Yeah... thanks for that.

mrsmugoo · 05/03/2014 13:48

I'm also fed up with "oh you're not very big are you?"

I'm carrying "neatly" but I measuring spot on for my dates 38cms and it feels HUUUUUGE.

HannahG315 · 05/03/2014 16:56

When you're full term everything you do people tell you is a sign on oncoming labour and unfortunately they're wrong-

'Oooh you coughed three times- that means the baby will be here this week...'

My waters have just broken (now seven days overdue) and DP has just asked with a straight face if he should take the day off tomorrow "just in case".

Oh, and DD2 was a 95 min labour.......

tertle · 05/03/2014 21:37

Overheard this morning at the swimming pool 'look Mum, that lady's tummy is huge'... Luckily the culprit was a small child or I would have taken more offence!

Oh and my cleaner who has not only asked me if I am having twins but has also helpfully said 'every week it just gets bigger and bigger'. Yes, I know...

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 05/03/2014 21:43

Ooh 10 days late. Have you tried

  • sex
  • curry
  • hot bath
  • long walk
  • bouncing on exercise ball
  • raspberry leaf tea
  • Tabasco
  • cod liver oil
  • etc
  • etc
tertle · 05/03/2014 21:43

Oh and good luck saucy!

LJBanana · 05/03/2014 21:48

Eeeek exciting saucy good luck. Xx

FrankelInFoal · 05/03/2014 21:53

Good luck Saucy

ziggletttwiglett · 05/03/2014 21:59

Had my first "mind out the way fatty" commment... rather depressing as I am only 19+3 and don't exactly have a prominent bump...
I'm sure it was said as a joke but must be the hormones
that make me a bit sad ha.

Good luck saucy!!! :)

cottoncandy · 05/03/2014 22:09

I went 10 days and 9 days overdue with my DCs. Wherever I went with my massive bump, I was asked 'when are you due'. On being told 'yesterday', 'last wednesday' or whatever they would almost invariably say 'ooooh don't have it here'.
No I have no plans to suddenly pop a baby out in your shop.

SaucyJack · 07/03/2014 19:51

Thanks Smile

Just an update to say our third daughter Luna was born at 2.20am that morning after a two hour labour. She weighed 7lb 7oz and is absolutely perfect tho she does look like a goblin cage fighter

Good luck to everyone else with your babies xxx

Seff · 07/03/2014 20:17

Congratulations :)

Hope your DH took the day off for you!

HelenHen · 07/03/2014 22:21

Congrats Smile

I'm sick of the 'oh you're nesting' comment anytime I do a bit of cleaning... Eh no... I'm cleaning... Now fuck off!

Worst by far though: a girl asked me when I was due and said she was due three days later but had it stillborn at 4 month's and showed me pictures Sad . I didn't know what to say.

HannahG315 · 07/03/2014 23:38

'You're not ill, you're only pregnant'. Now, I know this is true. But when you're heavily pregnant, and walking like John Wayne. It doesn't help. My dh even said this to me. It wasn't helpful.

Congrats saucy jack

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 08/03/2014 00:13

Congrats Saucy jack!

Haven't been pregnant in a long time but the worst I got was at 17 days overdue, when a midwife at the busiest maternity hospital in the country (not UK) told me I was the most pregnant woman she'd ever met. And I still wasn't technically in labour...
