this is going to sound really daft but how and when do I know that my labour has really started? I have had days of braxton hicks and today low pelvic pain and low backache..I know if my waters break then it's kind of time but what if they don't? I don't want to panic and be sent home again but I DO want to get there in time

oh you'll know....

Funnyyummymummy · 10/08/2006 22:11

Its not daft and this is gonna sound really annoying but when it happens believe me you will know!!! The pain you are experiencing might be you getting ready i.e. early labour, try not to stress and if you are concerned call the labour ward for advice, ive got 2 babies and I got sent home twice with ds (now 6 months)

Quootiepie · 10/08/2006 22:12

i remember a pain like someone shoving an umbrella up my arse... trust me, youll know.

GrinaFraud · 10/08/2006 22:14

ok on a seriouse note.

when the pain becomes unbearable, your waters break or you feel a tightening sensation similar to that of when you have a pooh (sorry) then you need to get to the hospital.
If you get pains but can still talk whilst having them they arent strong enough. dont worry about how long the gap is between the contractions, you need to also count the time each one lasts. if they get longer and the pain more intense then thast when things are getting going.

when you get the urge to chop your dp's testicles with a rusty spoon.....your about ready!

Funnyyummymummy · 10/08/2006 22:30

you ok nicodemus??

nicodemus · 10/08/2006 22:58

well I can still talk and type so obviously nothing to panic about yet...and no urges re rusty tools - thanks...reckon I've a bit longer to go then

..........ive got 4, and when i went into labour with the last one, i didnt know!!!......i was on msn talking to a friend, and it was her who told me i should get my arse to the hospital!!!.......i just got there in time (about 15 mins to spare!).....

lilmamma · 13/08/2006 11:20

when it gets too uncomfortable,is the time to go in,sometimes your waters dont break,so dont wait for them.with no4,i was in hospital as was 10 days late, but my waters went then nothing,i was told i would be induced in the morning, during the night kept walking round, until i couldnt stand it anymore.and asked could i have some gas,was examined and found to be 9cm,was whisked off to delivery suite.so when you feel i have had enough go!! good luck..
