Omg this place looks amazing! Totally thinking about jumping ship from Birmingham women's hospital! Anyone had any experience there?

It does look lovely- the only thing that puts me off is that I would like to be based at a hospital just in case. I have transferred from the women's to City as I am hoping to use the Serenity birth centre. They were really nice when I went for a tour there. Might be worth a look.

faster apparently city is only 2.5mins in an ambulance. Going to check it out next tues. might be worth a look at serenity though, do you know when they have open days? Btw, the mw on the phone said I didn't need to 'transfer' as such so I'm keeping my options open atm and still might end up at the women's!

Oh, that is not too far at all. I just gave Serenity a call and I was able to pop in for a visit that evening - they were really nice about it. I think they just check whether they have a room free to show you. When we went, only one room was in use. Thankfully baby had been born so it was quite peaceful! Hope all goes well.

Oh really? I might give them a call when I go to halcyon on Tuesday then. Feeling so much more confident about labour already Grin

I spent some time in serenity. was lush. we chose against halycon as it was slightly in the other direction and dh is the anxious type. I ended with emcs but they had basically 36 hours to get me there and I transferred onto delivery 12 hours before it.

I've got to say they'd do well to get there in 2.5mins in rush hour. I'd ask where the ambulance would come from - are they nearby or would the come from city?

good lick op, I'm excited for you!

luck even!

also Nct west Birmingham have something to do with tours I think. but you can just ring and ask.

poo they have open days every tues so I'm popping down then and will try to go to serenity at the same time. Will ask about the ambulance. Thanks for the advice Grin

Im very jealous!
I was booked at the lovely MLU at Walsall Manor (we're in Sutton) but my baby is too big! Consultant said 'no'....
I really hope you get your serenity/halcyon births. So much nicer than a clinical ward.

BlindKitty · 14/03/2014 16:12

Well I'm only 30 weeks so all can change just yet Confused

I gave birth at the Halcyon last Sep. I thought it was fabulous - relaxing, calm environment, modern and clean rooms with fixed birthing pools. We were the only ones there, they sent 2 midwives over from City to open up just for us, and we were so well looked after. I cannot recommend the birth centre enough. I was hesitant at first as it was my first baby and it is a stand alone centre, but after a tour and hearing lots of positive birth stories I transferred from the Women's hospital, SO glad I did!
