I am currently 21 + 4 and still struggling to get the energy to do house work etc. I don't live in a dump but was expecting to want to scrub the whole house by now. Currently cant get the motivation to clean the bathroom. when did your nesting instinct kick in?

Not til about 35 weeks. I was the same, hubby now loves that I'm on mat leave and fill my day with cleaning :-)

Julietee · 27/02/2014 12:15

40+4 and still waiting!

LastOneDancing · 27/02/2014 13:11

I had a burst at about 24 weeks and did lots of cleaning and sorting, taking stuff to the tip etc, which by some miracle I have managed to maintain.

Now at 35 weeks I have an urge to wash everything for the baby - I was trying to put it off as a maternity leave job but I can't resist... my spare room is full of drying muslins and little hooded towels today Smile

When I was pregnant with DS my nesting instinct kicked in at 38+5 weeks. Cleaned house from top to bottom. Dettolled the skirting boards and ceilings etc. finished the house at 5pm waters broke at 6pm DS was born 2 days later. Weird.

Am currently 33 weeks with DC2 and no nesting yet!

TwentiethCenturyGirl · 27/02/2014 13:26

Due this week and still no sign! Don't remember getting the urge last time round either!

vj32 · 27/02/2014 13:36

I want to clean and organise but physically can't which is annoying!

Julietee · 27/02/2014 13:43

I think it's important to remember not everyone gets every symptom. And your nesting might look different to someone else's. F'rinstance, if I've had anything, it's probably been buying stuff online for baby. But no correlation so far to arrival.

Writerwannabe83 · 27/02/2014 13:47

I'm 36 weeks and it hasn't kicked in yet - I don't actually think it will Smile

hubbahubster · 27/02/2014 13:58

Never happened with me. Too big, too swollen, too tired for all that!

tertle · 27/02/2014 16:54

38 weeks hère and have the urge to organise (although not so much clean) but often run out if steam half way through a task leaving a trail of destruction behind me!

anothermrssmith · 27/02/2014 22:50

It didn't! But then when it comes to housework my attitude is there's better things to do with your time. My house is clean but it sure as hell isn't tidy!

perfectstorm · 28/02/2014 03:43

38 weeks. Both times. But in my case, it involved bringing professionals in to steam clean the carpets! Nothing else.

Someone I know was married to a gardener, and she insisted they had to lay new turf. Essential, it seemed. It can take weird forms.

HelenHen · 28/02/2014 08:21

I'm 33 weeks and my husband casually pointed out a couple of weeks ago that my nesting instinct hasn't kicked in yet... Grrrrrrr!!!!!

With ds I cleaned the house every day from maybe 38 weeks. Had ds at 42 week's.

Mummytobe2014 · 28/02/2014 09:36

38+4 here and no nesting instinct i dnt think. Its hard to say as my dp works nights so during the day i have to be quiet and so im sitting here thinking of all the things i should/could be doing which is cleaning but is that boredom or nesting!? When he wakes up i get started but quickly realise my swollen legs/feet/ankles and spd are making it too hard/painful so give up Sad plus we have only just got carpet down in babies room so havent been able to sort through any of his stuff yet! Am looking forward to that but dnt think thats nesting just pure excitement Smile

commsgirl · 28/02/2014 10:09

I'm 38 weeks and I've been non-stop cleaning/organising for about a week now. Especially windows for some odd reason!

x0gawjus0x · 28/02/2014 10:19

39+2 and no instincts here except to lay down and snooze, I get the odd day every few days though where I do nothing but tidy probably only due to the fact things start getting messy then.. X

HelenHen · 28/02/2014 10:39

Oh commsgirl, I'm absolutely dying to clean the Windows Grin I keep looking at them thinking I can't wait for spring to kick in so I can clean them.

I've just thrown a loada newborn clothes in the wash Smile

SweetPea86 · 28/02/2014 11:43

About 30 weeks I went mad now 33 it's worn off a little but house is clean all the time as I keep on top of it. I do get excited when I see cleaning products on the tele and add them to my list of shopping.

Before pregnancy I WOULD never get excited of any thing cleaning wise lol

mrsmugoo · 28/02/2014 11:45

I've had the odd burst of "oh I really need to de-scale the kettle" but mainly I'm just trying to get organised rather than cleaning.

I'm only getting one full week of mat leave before baby arrives and I plan to spend it resting not cleaning!

kally195 · 28/02/2014 13:20

I'm 29 weeks and starting to get the itch to clean - problem is we are still in the throes of massive redecoration, so there is no point yet as it will all just get covered in sanding dust etc. I'm consoling myself with in no way over-the-top writing and planning for when I do get to clean!

dashoflime · 28/02/2014 13:23

Mine kicked in about 25 weeks but didn't lead to any cleaning. instead I:

Obsessed over buying all the baby stuff as soon as possible
Made a mosaic on the balcony wall
Bought a massive fish tank

jammiecat · 28/02/2014 14:34

I never had the urge to clean in my first pregnancy, although I did batch cook enough meals to keep us going for 3 weeks after DS arrived. This time round I'm expecting twins and at 34 weeks no urge to do anything that involves getting off the sofa as I'm so uncomfortable (2 breech babies) and so I'm not convinced it's ever going to happen.
