pain below bump??

38 weeks and a few days, nothing interesting childbirth wise has happened so far.

Last night got a huge period style cramp but it's in the v below my bump iykwim. I thought it might be a start to bad diarrhoea as I get bad pain through constipation, but it stayed all night. I couldn't lie on my back, and on my side was sore enough.

It lessened today, but came and went a couple of times - I don't think it can be anything like contractions as it's hugely intense (a lot more than at the start of labour was last time) will last maybe 4 minutes, then disappear for hours. Plus doesn't seem to hugely affect the bump, it's definately below it.

It seems to get a lot worse if the baby moves too, but it's so strong I can't breathe or move when it happens.

Also getting occassional shooting pains down my back, again too infrequent to be anything contractionny....

Any ideas or just end-of-pregnancy soreness?

This isn't pain on the scar of a previous section?

Otherwise, I have no idea ...

Ligaments? Maybe everything is just gearing up for labour.

TBH, if the pain is as bad as it sounds, I'd give your midwife a precautionary ring and just explain it all.

OTOH, my contractions were never in my bumps, they were all underneath, sort of behind my pubic bone iyswim. I couldn't feel anything in my actual bumps.

Actually, definitely ring the midwife, it's been going on for a while and sounds like it's worrying you a bit. At least then you might have a bit of peace of mind.

Oh, yes, could it be your cervix? Maybe the baby is bumping the cervix and setting off contractions down there?

Ligament pain tends to be in the corners (iyswim) - I had it really bad with my second pregnancy.

no def not cs scar!

My contractions with ds were more around the side and bottom of bump, this is def. under, so I thought they'd be the same?

I suppose it could be ligaments, but I'd have thought I'd have had it before now, and it's quite a severe pain.

Will give her a precautionary call after work.... just don't like to sound all paranoid!

luna - I have the exact pain as you. Mentioned it to mw today and she says it's nothing serious. Mine comes in waves and the other night, I was actually timing them, thinking they were contractions!!!! However, I started with this pain when I was pregnant with ds and it turned into full labour some 8 hours later. It's just your body's way of getting ready. Don't you beat me to it!!!

i would also say you are gearing up.
with ds i started with a dull backache which turned into contractions.
i recently had period like cramps regularly all afternoon so rang for advice and was told it could well be labour and to call back if it continued.
i said with ds it was backache and she said this time it will probably be totally dofferent so you are still in the dark with no2!

lol

turns out it's the baby engaging apparently. Argh, I think it's going to have a huge head!
