I am only 7 weeks pregnant and have gained 5 lbs, I am really worried about packing on the weight, but am trying to eat sensibly and go walking as much as possible. Did anyone else gain weight quickly?

I have added about the same and am nine weeks. All the formal books seems to say "hardly anything in the first trimester" and all the informal books (Best Friends Guide) and, hey, women I have spoken to say "forget it, it will happen". As long as the doctor isn't concerned I am going to try not to be. Well, that's the party line but to be honest, I just feel fat and sick..... boo!!!

As soon as I saw the little blue line my waist line grew 3 inches! I piled it on in ther first trimester. (and the second, and the third....)

i started a similar thread when i was about 12 weeks. I am 23 weeks and have put on 22lbs already- i must say i put on a lot of that in the first 12 weeks. also my waistband just expanded beyond belief by about week 9. ok so it's my second but even so..........Don't worry. If you are eating sensibly it is just the way your body is responding. hth

Look at this way; the more you put on the sooner you start looking pregnant, not just fat. Which is useful to your friends. So really, it's your social duty to go and get a large slice of cake NOW

I was at a party at the weekend with another pregnant friend at 24 weeks (I am 37 weeks). A woman, who did not know me from Adam, told us the difference between us was that I had the "puffiness" of late pregnancy!!! I still can't decide whether that is good or bad!

I am nearly 13.5 weeks and have put on 8lbs. I attribute a lot of this to water retention - did you retain a lot of water just prior to your period? If so it's likely that this is the case.

I put on 4.5 stone during my last pregnancy (), but I did loose 2.5 stone within 2 weeks of DS's birth. I had a lot of amniotic fluid - my waters broke at 5am (gushing everywhere) and continued to gush for about 4 hours - it slowed down and then at 10pm that night the midwife broke my hindwaters... so that could have something to do with it.
