Does anyone else have this issue?

My cat is weird since I have been pregnant. He sometimes gives me really ugly looks and even bites me... Not hard enough to hurt. Does anyone else seem to have this problem since they have been expecting?

Oh I should mention too.. He never does it to anyone but me.. My DP he loves and my DS too.

I've heard of cats behaving this way, mine is actually the other way round - she normally bites when you don't pet her 100% correctly and can be a bit stand-offish and she's been very affectionate and curling up against my bump, she seemed to know before even I did. I think they can sense/smell the hormonal changes in the body.

Maybe it could be because she is a girl?... Reuben is boy throug and through.

my 2 cats are clingy mummies boys at the best of times but they do seem more keen to sleep on my tummy since I've been pregnant- not sure if that is just cos I'm getting bigger/lazier and am lying down more though!

Baby is a total wriggler - bump gave one cat a hefty kick when he was laid on my tummy yesterday, I got given 'the look' and cat stalked off in a huff!

Well, my cat has always given everyone ugly looks and snaps if he doesn't get his way. On the other hand, he is totally dependent on cuddles! I think we just have a strange cat. About yours.... I've heard of cats getting funny about pregnancy, how far along are you? My sis in law had her cat give her evils after the baby kicked when she was napping on her bump!!!!

I have two male cats who have become unbelievably clingy to dh and ds since I fell pregnant. Although, in the past few weeks they have been coming to me again.

Could be because they sense pregnancy ..... Or the fact that for the past 8 months I haven't been able I stomach the smell of cat food so I haven't fed them once, it's always dh or ds!

They were horrid to me in the first few months though, one cat wouldn't even look at me. He's better again now though.

Oh and the one who is ds' cat gets very annoyed and vocal when ds is talking to/touching my bump. I think he's jealous already.

One of my cats won't leave my bump alone!!! He isn't happy unless he's either fast asleep across it or perched on the top of it Smile

It's the hormones/pheromones. My cat was like this with both pregnancies. Very clingy and annoying and then he'd turn round and bite me! Once he jumped up and bit me on the bum!! But from middle of second trimester on he settled down. They can be very sensitive and can sense changes that humans can't. My friend is a vet and says it's quite common.

My cats are the same - really unpleasant in the early days and now they can't get enough of me (I'm 28 weeks now) - I have one curled up on my feet as I type this :-) x

I was on a work trip abroad a couple of weeks ago and a cat in a restaurant leapt onto my lap, curled up and started purring. We were there all evening and he didn't engage with anyone else at all. My colleagues think I am some crazy cat charmer. Actually I was about 10 weeks pregnant and I think the cat sensed it. I can't think of any other explanation.

My boy cats favourite place is snuggled up right next to the bump. DH says the baby is going to come out purring.

Girl cat, not so much, but she's a funny little thing at the best of times.

My cat has always had a bit of favouritism towards DH but I'm convinced it's been more extreme since I've been pregnant.

The people I live next door to have two cats one is very friendly but when I first found out I was pregnant in the summer if I had my doors or windows open she would come in sit on my knee and be way too affectionate, like sucking or nibbling on my clothes. (The lady next door doesn't mind her coming in) I got a little creeped out and if I was in the kitchen she would just sit outside the doors watching me lol

My hubby said maybe she senses your pregnant lol

My very old cat (20) who is very much my cat and doesn't sit with anyone else, loves my bump. Even before I got a bump he would curl up with his head pushed against my belly. When my bump was small he'd rest his head/ chin on it and now it's big he's reverted to burying his head in to it. And he doesn't care I he gets nudged by baby either :-) it's like he knows she's in there and is giving her cuddles, it's so lovely. He's also not well and it's amazing he's still here- vets think he's holding on til my little lady is born :-)

My cat went insane in the first trimester and kept biting my face. He then settled down a bit until baby was born whereupon he went totally mental and kept biting the dog and me all the time. We had to regime him for his own safety before the dog ate him. A dog only has so much patience Hmm

i dont have a cat, but my parents have a dog. The dog knew i was pregnant before i did- about 3 days before i got my BFP i called over the see my parents, normally the dog goes bat-shit and jumps all over me and we play like as if i'm a 10 yr old kid... He was really reserved in this instance and no matter what i did, he just wouldnt jump up on me. Thought it was so odd.. then after the BFP it all added up.. 20 weeks later he's still the same, real protective and much less playful as he was.

He also knew my mother had cancer before the rest of us did! Well, not that he TOLD us, but he was acting weird around her too, following her around the house and minding her.. which he wouldnt normally do.. animals are so intuitive.

Just read the other day that bites and/or licks are their way of claiming you as their own. Only took a couple of days for my two to get used to the new smells and noises when i brought dc1home. Soon dc2 will be here and am curious to see if they are bothered or not!

Mine did something similar. Our usually-affectionate DCuddleCat spent a week avoiding me, wouldn't sleep on our bed or cuddle on my lap or play as he usually would whilst standoffish DIndependentCat became a lovebug. Happily, DCuddleCat has recovered. I think they might be able to smell a difference, and perhaps it just takes them a while to get used to the idea?

this is interesting.
My DP has a cat. Usually the cat will sit on my lap, but recently she's a lot more interested in trying to sit on my tummy. I don't let her because it really doesn't feel comfortable, and she's got a habit of suddenly digging her claws in!

I am a bit worried about the cat when the baby comes home. Our downstairs area is entirely open plan and there is no way to keep the cat away from the baby unless someone is there all the time. The cat has a few mad moments and will run round madly - I'm worried she'd jump on the baby or scratch it, or worse, try to curl up on it. I'm hoping she won't be too interested in the baby, but she's a really nosy cat!

(not saying this is correct but as one point of view) could it be just that the cat is being a bit moody and as your pregnant you have put the two together when there may be other factors involved that could also explain the cats behavior ?.

This cat has always had mad moments as far as I know - they don't last very long but she careers about the house, jumping all over the place and generally being pretty frantic. No idea why.
