Cold remedies while pregnant?

I probably should have some idea as to the answer to this, given that I am pregnant with DC3! But what remedies are there for a horrible cold when pregnant? At the moment I'm in the constantly sneezing, snuffling, blocked up phase. Feel pretty rubbish to be honest but suspect there's not much I can do about it!

Paracetamol?

It's rubbish isn't it. All the good stuff is out of bounds. Steam, olbas oil, etc are all ok for a blocked nose.

I sympathise. One way or another, I was last 'allowed' decongestant in winter 2008

Paracetamol for painful sinuses and aches and pains.
Hot drinks of honey and lemon.
Steaming your head.
Vix vaporub, also can be used with above.
Rest.
If your throat is at you, most throat lozenges have small doses of alcohol in them (but i think you'd have to consume a lorryload to get pissed).
Lemon and glycerin syrup is ok.
There is a video on you tube on how to unblock your nose in 30s (some weird holding breath and nodding technique), not long term but can help when you are so bunged up you can't blow.

I don't know if guidelines have changed since last time or if I was just badly informed but I didn't realise paracetomol was ok (I'm only 10 weeks, is it ok in early pregnancy?)

Will dig out my facial sauna as I am so blocked up its ridiculous!

My chemist told me paracetamol was ok, never asked how far along i was, so i assume early pg is fine.

Strepsils are fine, and hot honey and lemon has actually been proven to be equally effective as things like lemsip :)

Could try those nasal strips for congestion? I got some to try but didn't need them in the end.

Lemon, honey, ginger, hot water. Started using it in my last pregnancy for a cold and now use it even when I'm not pregnant because it's so effective. Make it good and strong - decent glug of honey, big chunk of lemon, thumb sized piece of ginger - it should all fill about half of your mug.

And nice balsam tissues for your nose.

DH has taken the DCs (aged 4 and 3) to the park so I'm getting a rare moment of rest! It's one of those colds that tries to leak out of your eyes. Blowing my nose makes little difference and I'd dearly love a decongestant! Will stick with steaming and hot honey/lemon and hope it's a short lived lurgy. Good to know I can pop a paracetomol later if I'm feeling crappy too.

you can also get squirty saline drops to go up your nose when bunged up, generally found in the children medecine.
