Maternity leave and pay

So confused

This is what work offer for 52 weeks
3 months full pay including smp- so this will just be my normal salary?
2 weeks 90% plus smp- 136.78 in addition to 90%?
3 months half pay plus smp- does this mean half my wages and add on 136.78 per week?
13 weeks smp- is this paid via normal way ??
13 weeks unpaid- no statutory, no wages I presume?

I get 90% of wage for 6 weeks then SMP only for the rest ! X

Blimey - you'd be in a brilliant position if you get 3 months full pay followed by a further two weeks of 90% and SMP!

Your interpretation looks right to me based on what you say. And that is a good maternity package!

I imagine it means 90% of your wage and SMP on top as long as that total doesn't go above your normal monthly pay. If it does, you will be capped at whatever your normal pay is.

golly that's a great package! and yes your guesses in your opening post are all correct and all the pay will be via your normal payroll.

NB as you mention that your job is going to be vacant - unless you go straight to a new job with the same employer you would almost certainly have to pay back some of this generous maternity package if you don't return after mat leave - check your contract!

Do you work for a local authority by any chance? I do, my understanding is that the first period at 90% only, then a period of 50% plus SMP on top of the then a period of SMP on then 3 months unpaid.

I'm confused about the numbers - seems to add up to one year and two weeks...I suspect the 2 weeks of 90% + stat pay is supposed to be included in the first 3 months. That would make it the same as my (NHS) package or my friend's school maternity policy.

You will end up with something coming through during the last 3 months when there's no pay though as you usually get a bit of a tax rebate by that point. I had a whopping £36 this month...which was very gratefully received!

That seems like a fantastic deal! 3 months full pay??? What I don't understand is that I'm a teacher too and this is what I get:
• first 4 weeks of absence:?full pay inclusive of Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP);
• next 2 weeks:??90 per cent of a week’s salary inclusive of SMP;
• next 12 weeks:?half pay plus £128.73 SMP (not exceeding full pay);
• next 8 weeks:??£128.73 SMP.

Additional maternity leave of up to a further 26 weeks, 13 of which will be paid at the SMP rate of £128.73 per week, with the remaining 13 weeks unpaid.

I thought all teachers, no matter how high up you are , got the same conditions. Am I wrong on this? I will have to ask.

olive would depend. What you're describing is the minimum under teachers t's and c's, perhaps the op works for an academy that has extremely more generous maternity pay?

Nope- def not an academy! A local authority primary in London.
This is the exact wording on the letter:
12 weeks full pay ( inclusive of SMP)
2 weeks at 90% of salary plus SMP ( up to your normal weekly salary)
12 weeks half pay plus SMP
13 weeks flat rate SMP
13 weeks unpaid

Is there a clause to state you must return or pay it back?

Well, if you earn 500pw (have no idea!) It would go as follows:

Week 1-12: 500pw
Week 13-14: 500pw (90/ is 450, plus SMP but capped at 500)
Week 15-27: 378.73pw
Week 28-41: 128.73pw
Week 42-52: nowt

All very lucky, I work overseas and when I give birth this October I will get 45 days (including weekends) maternity leave then I have to go back to work...

Yes, KenAdams, usually you have to return for 13 weeks or repay the enhanced portion of the maternity pay.
