Nub Theory anyone?!

I am 13 and a half weeks pregnant with my first and had my first scan 2 days ago (when I was 13+2). It was such a magical experience except bubs wouldn't play ball so we had to do a lot of jiggling about, running up and down the hospital corridors, drink, pee dah-de-dah. In the end they STILL couldn't get the measurements that they needed BUT we got some cute pics and got to have '3 scans' in the space of an hour :P My hubby joked that it MUST be a boy because it was misbehaving and secretly I think he wants a little boy while I have looked and looked at the pics and thought that it could be a girl (secretly I want a girl). We both honestly say that we don't mind what it is and in the end, as long as it's healthy that is all that matters! Would anybody be able to hazard a guess to what our wee one is by the nub or skull theory? I'm not exactly going to run out and buy blue or pink but think it might help me to bond a little with him/her if I can call it by name!! I'm guess the 'tail' out the back is the nub but not sure if baby is lying on it's side or not..just really confused.

If somebody could please enlighten me how to post the pic I will put it up so you guys can see it for yourselves!

Apparently if the nub points up it's a boy but if it's horizontal it's a girl. Mine was pointing up and I actually am having a boy but it's hardly an exact science, just a bit of fun!!

I got really into this while pregnant with dd2, there's a site called in gender.com which shows you the difference with people doing it all the time that would be better but if you post a pic I'll tell you my guess, I'm not sure if you can do it on the mumsnet app but if you go into mumsnet via your main internet or Safari then under profile you can add pics

Due timorrow though no signs that he'll come on time! Am hoping daily one mile walks to yoga and lots of sex will help shift him!

Had a look at your pic but hard to say. Nub looks horizontal so girl? Tbh, I know it's a cliche but as long as bub is healthy that's all that matters. I was disappointed for about a day but once I realised that I felt much better.

Can I ask a stupid question? I have seen the 'Nub Theory' mentioned a few times on these boards, please can someone explain the theory and what the 'nub' is? I have my 13 week scan in just over a week, we are not asking sex but my nose will get the better of me and I will def try to work it out! x

nc060, the nub is basically the early formation of the genetalia. At 12/13wks, baby boys and girls look very similar as the clitoris is swollen and protruding in the same way the penis is. There is a theory known as 'the angle of the dangle' which aims to predict the sex based on the angle of the nub. I can't quite remember but seem to think if it was pointing upwards more than 30degrees angle to the spine is suggests boy and straighter suggests girl. But don't take my word for it. As Kitty says, go onto one of the gender sites and you'll find lots of examples of both.

My friend actually paid good money for a 'nub theory specialist' at 12 weeks. Ended up telling everyone it was a girl and surprise surprise, she's having a boy! We held out and went for a private scan at 18 weeks
