diagnosed with OC (obstetric cholestasis) - only one percent of women get it ! oh la la

NHS and websites say women with OC are induced at 37 weeks to reduc risksof stillbirty. i am 37 weeks today, went in to see doctor, who merely said according to latest guideline they will only induce at 40 wks and wont do anything in meantime apart from prescribing meds for me, when asked to see guidelines he couldnt produce a copy, apparently its an "oral" guideline not published anywhere. the midwife said she was unaware of the latest guidelnes.

wonder has anyone been daignosed of OC recently and how is your hospital dealing with it? a bit tired dealing with conflicting meical opinion within my hospital..

This is my second pregnancy with OC.

Last time (2012) I was diagnosed at 34 weeks and induced @ 38 weeks. I've been told this time (currently 28+4) that I'll be induced @ 37 weeks so as far as I know the guidelines haven't changed.

I am on piriton, ursodeoxycholic acid and will be given vitamin k from 32 weeks. HTH

i am at whittington in london, which is supposed to have good reputation for maternity, but series of encounters with their drs made me wonder.

the dr today didnt explain anything but sit down and book me for induction at 40 wks, when i asked isnt that too late, he said in "in hackney and lewisham women are only induced at 42 weeks in normal pregnancies", a bit surprised that this sort of answer came fr a dr.

the dr presdribed me the same things namely piriton, urso acid, but no vitamin K, not sure if its cos he just missed it.

i asked to speak to a consultant but couldnt get one.

really tired with this and not sure what to do. asked to go in to monitor heartbeat this fri (just to reassure me) and if i still want to see dr they will try to get one but no guarantee, especially n guarantee to see one thats more experienced and professional!

You should be seeing a consultant to discuss this.

I had it first time but it was diagnosed late - at exactly 40 weeks and I was booked in the next day for induction.

I didn't get it this time but the plan if I did get it was for me to be induced at 38 weeks.

Does seem strange I had this last time at 38 weeks had test then was called in next day to be induced i haven't got it this time yet but only 31 weeks but been told if get in again will be monitered more and booked into be induced at 37 or 38 weeks but I think it depends on how high your bile levels are hope you get answers Friday x

do you rmb how high were ur bile acids level? x

Hmm, very strange that they can't get you in with a consultant. I wasn't allowed to leave the ward until I'd spoken to a dr and made a care plan either time. They're doing ctg and bloods (LFTs) twice weekly.

If I were you I'd be calling back tomorrow and asking to see a consultant

They are talking nonsense, you need to demand to see a consultant. Do not leave the hospital until you do. 37 weeks is full term it is much safer to deliver the baby.

Sorry op I can't remember how high they were but there weren't sky high I know that because I remember the phone call like yesterday and they just said your bile levels are slightly raised can you come to hospital in an hour is there another hospital near you that you could go to I went to a low risk unit hospital for bloods and to speak to someone and they then sent me to hospital every hospital has different policy's I think x
