New home, as requested!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CatsCantFlyFast · 11/02/2014 16:25

And I think I might be having Braxton hicks, although they don't really feel like period pain. They are a bit sharper than that and at the lower front/sides of my bump, not deep inside where I would expect period pain to be. Def uncomfortable. am not worrying at all that this is labour starting, oh no Grin

CatsCantFlyFast · 11/02/2014 16:32

Are Braxton hicks supposed to come and go? This is more of an always there ache/pain (although its not quite a pain, its more than an ache)

CatsCantFlyFast · 11/02/2014 16:32
Grin
Brodicea · 11/02/2014 16:36

Hmm, merk I wonder - when are you due?

CatsCantFlyFast · 11/02/2014 16:39

Ages yet, 21 march.
Am faffing about whether I should go to the supermarket innate fear of waters breaking in public place
Sure it is nothing but I've not had any pain at all before. Its mostly one sided though so prob just baby in a weird place does not manage to convince myself

Thunderpantsarego · 11/02/2014 16:43

merk sounds like the pains I was having the other day. Have had them since as well, but they passed after about an hour. Presumably if your bump has changed shape that will put extra pressure on different muscles/ligaments etc?

So has chiropractor magic worked already do you think if baby is engaging?

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/02/2014 16:46

brod poor you. Midwives sometimes don't think how much they can panic people with poor explanations!

Firstly, merk is totally right - measuring with a tape is very subjective and a 'guesstimate' at best regarding the size of baby. Position of baby, your abdominal length, body fat, size of the lunch you just ate and who measured you can all skew the measurement. Do you have a personalised growth chart? They're slightly more accurate as they take height/weight into consideration but that's all.

A lot of women measure small or large for dates, and it's policy to send all of them for growth scans. The vast majority have perfectly normal sized babies, measuring is basically a very crude screening test designed to pick up those few who do have issues with growth.

If I were you I'd keep away from google, the chances are you'll have a lovely scan and everything will be totally normal. If it turns out she's a big baby they might check you again for gestational diabetes, and if there's a lot of fluid they might do another anatomy scan to make sure there are no problems with her digestive system or the placenta. To reassure you, extra fluid is quite common and often no cause is ever found, you'd just be monitored a bit more closely; gestational diabetes can usually be managed well with diet. But like I said, most likely outcome is a very normal sized baby in there!

Not sure what the midwife means by 'engaged position', at 28weeks she probably just means that the baby is cephalic (head down). Even if the head is in your pelvis at the moment it could easily pop out again, the head is too small at this point to engage properly!

Sorry you've had a fright, hopefully your scan will come through quickly and reassure you that everything's normal xx

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/02/2014 16:52

Oooh, missed merk's mystery pains! sounds like the baby's gone a bit lower to me, probably stretching the lower bit of your belly that hasn't had to give way before. I'd expect early labour to be a bit more crampy and feel uterine, if these are 'surface' pains I think it's more likely to be nerves/ligaments getting newly squished and stretched..

Brodicea · 11/02/2014 16:52

Thanks for the reassurance boom - she did seem very skittish and was phoning a colleague to check what to do so it all seemed a bit ER which probably started me off thinking the worst.
I don't have a personalised growth chart - she did mention that if I had been in Leeds throughout, I would have one so I guess she's sending me as a precaution as she couldn't check this.
Can't wait for the scan and to know if there are any more tests needed. Hopefully she's OK in there - first bit of non-average news really, and I have a friend who had a still birth and another friend whose son died just after birth so I think I'm a bit of a pessimist.

In other news merk is having some interesting pangs - if they were contractions, would they also come and go? Help Boom!

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/02/2014 16:53

'Squished' is a technical term btw Grin

Brodicea · 11/02/2014 16:53

Oops x-post….

CatsCantFlyFast · 11/02/2014 16:57

I like the squished technical term! Boom I honestly don't know how we would have got through this without you. I shall bring you chocs and wine to the next meet up for all the free advice and reassurance.
I'm going to go with squished for now. However pain is not ignorable, so am working on staying calm provided it does not get worse. Def think chiro magic is working as I think bump has dropped; I could be imagining it BUT my heartburn has almost gone which I'm thinking would back that up

CatsCantFlyFast · 11/02/2014 16:58

Thunder weren't your pains sharp and all over? This is a deep, non stop ache / hurt on one side, a little like a bigger hurried stitch.

Foodylicious · 11/02/2014 17:06

merk would calling your mat assessment unit make you feel any better? ours are open 24hrs and were lovely when I called them with pains a few weeks ago (pains nothing like yours so I can't help though - mine were more like my cervix or urethra were being pinched, hard.).
They were really reasuring and gave me the option of popping down to see them

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/02/2014 17:33

Aww shucks merk, I think you've probably given out far more useful advice than I have!

foody is right btw, if you're worried give them a bell, they can always get you to pop down for a quick go on the monitor to rule out contractions.

Think you've passed your heartburn onto me merk nothing to do with the toffee and pecan slice I just gobbled nonono-

CatsCantFlyFast · 11/02/2014 17:51

Def not contractions, just uncomfortable. (Ps my 'hurried' stitch was supposed to be a hurty stitch). Figure it will either go or turn into something else so am just heading home now for a bath. Am clearly not having a good day as just had to do a jig and concentrate quite seriously in the supermarket car park to stop me peeing my pants! Glad to be here to keep you all entertained Grin Dear Newbies, you have all of this glamour to come...

Foodylicious · 11/02/2014 18:06

Think I am talking myself into a trip to the docs tomorrow - have had lower back pain at night last few nights, same as i get when I wake up really needing a pee so have just peed on a stick
++ for protien, bit more than a trace of blood and ++ leucocytes. Will try to remember to catch a sample in the morning and test it again

CatsCantFlyFast · 11/02/2014 18:30

Foody I don't know what any of that means or what kind of stick you are peeing on but am jealous you have sticks that I don't hope all is ok

CatsCantFlyFast · 11/02/2014 18:31

Shove up and make room in the chopper GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Foodylicious · 11/02/2014 18:37

Really?!?!!!!!!!
Grin

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/02/2014 18:38

EEEEEEE who?! Who?!

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/02/2014 18:39

Ps boo to possible uti foody, get drinking!

Foodylicious · 11/02/2014 18:39

merk they are the same sticks at the one your doc uses. Like all good nurses I have 'appropriated' a tub from work Grin(they are slightly out of date and we have loads of these already for training).

CatsCantFlyFast · 11/02/2014 18:40

Jealous of your sticks!
Think pain may have been caused by trying not to burst knowing about a berry bfp for a lot of the day Grin

Foodylicious · 11/02/2014 18:40

Just remembered I have some cystitis sachets somewhere, should be fine to drink these shouldn't I?
