Just sneaking in to welcome sid Grin Grin and pass on my congrats! Try not to panic too much, as far as I know from my early doors panicking hormones arent released steadily they are released in bursts. Thats why lines on pee sticks tend not to gradually darken but stay the same for a few days then get darker, stay the same again, then darker again etc. I peed on heaps and panicked that each one wasnt darker each day, I was a crazy worry wart at the beginning, it took a good 2 weeks for me to get a proper line on a test. Because people can release bursts of hormones at different times it means the normal range is huge. Dont worry about the upper figures just remember that anything over 25 is good, so 300+ is epic!! Grin

Oh and re food, I swear I lived on beige crap for weeks as I couldnt stomach anything else. Your body will take what it needs so dont worry. Do keep up the calcium intake though, otherwise your body will take it from your bones. My doc scared the crap out of me telling me that. Shock

SidneyBristow · 13/02/2014 09:12

Thanks for the welcome and the reassurance Thanks I'm really trying hard to be firm with myself and not let my imagination run away with me. I had the hideous thought "easy come, easy go" til I remembered that the last 20 months haven't exactly been easy; I think just having read the heartbreak that other berries have gone through has made me hesitant to feel confident that all of this is real quite yet. I'll feel massively better tomorrow afternoon after hearing the new blood results; I'm already used to the weird womb achiness so am off cramp alert, and have stopped wearing dark knickers in case AF decides to show Grin so that's progress, right? and whatever else happens, you're all right, today I'm pregnant and that is something I actually never thought would happen, and so for each day it continues I will be nothing but happy and grateful.

Mushiness aside, what's the verdict on tea...? It's now making me gag. Better now I've had some toast. I suppose it gets worse from here? I think I'm 34 days gone. So in pregnancy lingo, is that roughly 1 month, or is it 1 day shy of 5 weeks? (i have lots of stalking the other copter threads catching up to do!)

Thunderpantsarego · 13/02/2014 09:13

Morning lads,

Headache Central here, yowsers. But...35 weeks today- this is almost getting real?!

brod well done on the clench reminder- it's so easy to forget.

CatsCantFlyFast · 13/02/2014 09:44

That's 4 weeks 6 days Sid. So only another 35 weeks to go Grin
Don't beat yourself up for worrying, it won't go after Fri, you will just switch to something else to worry over. It doesn't get much easier I'm afraid.
I never stopped drinking tea, if I remember rightly you're allowed 200mg caffeine a day, so that's a few cups of tea. My tea barely has a tea bag waved at it though, so doubt it even qualifies as tea in the first place.
You need the link to book Thunder found which is the most reasonable explanation of what you should/shouldn't eat and drink, based on actual sensible data rather than a message in a bottle found washed up on a beach by an NHS bod

Thunder those damn headaches of yours... Poor you

CatsCantFlyFast · 13/02/2014 09:46

Meant to say, stay away from describing it in months, it confused us all! We never got to the bottom of whether months are 4 weeks long and you're pregnant for 10 of them, or if they are 4.something weeks long. We also never officially figured out when the third trimester started I don't think Grin

SidneyBristow · 13/02/2014 09:57

Oh never fear I won't be giving into any sort of pregnancy scaremongering; thunder's book is on my shortlist to download tomorrow evening after I get blood results! I just didn't explain myself very well - the smell & taste of tea is now making me gag. I gave up caffeine & Coke last month (interesting timing) and would rather not jump back on the Coke bandwagon as I need to be mindful of my weight - gaining too much will affect my intracranial pressure situation and I don't want to do that to myself. What have you all found to drink that isn't nauseating? Or was it just my time to vomit and the tea had nothing to do with it? And why am I paralyzingly tired...not even 10am and I need a nap. I need a cheat sheet on how to be pregnant Wink

CatsCantFlyFast · 13/02/2014 10:04

The tiredness is v bad in the first tri, don't fight it and sleep as much as you can.
I have never been a water drinker but have drank litres and litres of the stuff during pregnancy. IMO during the first tri you will/should eat and drink anything you can keep down that doesn't make you feel ill. If you are going to get some sickness then anything you can keep down is helpful calories even if it is nutritionally lacking Grin For some the sickness starts quite quickly and you will need to hug the sofa and groan until it passes

CatsCantFlyFast · 13/02/2014 10:05

Some smells will make you more ill, I had to ban certain things from the house....

Foodylicious · 13/02/2014 10:40

sid I made to switch from full fat coke last year via diet cherry coke, then diet coke and now caffeine free diet coke.
I did however buy a multipack of mini cans of coke (full fat) a couple of months ago and have one as a treat occasionally.
I have been able to drink tea throughout but stopped coffee near the beginning because of the caffeine and was not enjoying restricting myself. I then went off coffee altogether -made one by mistake on auto-pilot at work, had a sip and promptly spat it out in the sink and just about managed not to vom infront of my colleaguesGrin.
merk is right about the tiredness, don't fight it if you can help it, and don't go anywhere without a snack bar, banana or something in your bag. I went through a phase of having boiled sweets almost constantly too.
thunder Sad at your headache, thats rubbish, but wow! 35weeksGrin!!!
I missed yoga yesterday kitty so going to give a youtube video a go later. Its not on next week for half-term but I have booked for the next 6 weeks after that.
Off to docs later for physio referral then seeing a friend and her little one (about 2yrs old), looking forward to that.
Can't believe its Thursday already, back to work on Monday Sad, have been very lazy and not done much, but its been good!

Tallyra · 13/02/2014 12:55

Sid I went off tea big time when I was ill and I still don't like it as much as before - have to put sugar in now when I'd managed to wean off it before. In fact, dairy in general was bad, I couldn't eat yoghurt for ages either. just go with it.

If you start getting really bad and you think you're getting dehydrated then keep in touch with your doctor. a bit of sickness is normal but if it starts affecting you and your lifestyle they should be willing to prescribe drugs. which are safe, don't worry about that!

Foodylicious · 13/02/2014 13:06

Just done this yoga vid ladies -

Foodylicious · 13/02/2014 13:06

WTF! too relaxed to know what I am doing!

was good for a short one

Foodylicious · 13/02/2014 13:07

ahhh!

Angelina77 · 13/02/2014 13:59

Welcome Sidney, congratulations :)

I'm nearly 22 weeks now and still nervous, but I had an awul time dealing with anxiety early on so I know how you feel.

I had a rough day yesterday, just can't seem to cope with even mild stress at the moment. Went to see the consultant about my ongoing UTI and on the way to work afterwards my brolly blew inside out and I dropped my notes, scan pics and everything all over the wet path and completely lost it. I spent most of yesterday in tears and feel like shit today too :(

It looks like I've lost out on my NCT place as I didn't pay within the time - can't believe I live in the only city on the country that don't do free ante natal classes.

Sorry about the moan, it's all I ever do on here.

CatsCantFlyFast · 13/02/2014 14:29

Angel don't worry, moan away. I missed my NCT too due to moving house, and my free class has not been really up to scratch. To compensate we're doing 2 hours one on one with the NCT teacher, would that be an option for you?

Foodylicious · 13/02/2014 14:38

angel we have not signed up for NCT but for a different local birth preparation class called Birth Positively. Its £95 for 8 hrs split over 2 Saturday mornings. maybe there is something like this near you? i found ours through the pregnancy yoga I have started going to.

Sorry you feeling so crappy Sad
I keep having days at the moment where I feel positive and stronger, only to find myself later irritable and/or in tears, so frustrating Confused, and it can be tiniest thing that tips me over the edge.
Yay on nearly 22 weeks, I am 22+4!
Saw my doc today about physio and promethazine and she was lovely, took the time to ask how I was etc as I had seen her near the beginning when I was not coping well at all. Thankfully she caught me on an 'up', but it did remind me really how far we have come Smile
Oh and never appologise for moaning on here, much better to get it out!

MotherOfCleo · 13/02/2014 16:56

sorry.....me again Blush I was talking to a group of girls at my postnatal group and we all agreed that in hindsight the antenatal classes weren't that useful so I wouldn't worry too much. The only bit that was useful for me was the info on pain relief.

CatsCantFlyFast · 13/02/2014 20:05

So sick of sitting on the stupid exercise ball but Boom you would be proud of me

Bunnygirlie · 13/02/2014 20:09

Nom nom nom just had a big bowl of wheat free pasta with lots of cheese, one of the few things I am loving at the mo!

Thanks all for food advice.

kitty what did I do?!? Shock

sid the tiredness that hits at 4/5 weeks is insane! I was paranoid that AF would still turn up even after the BFP. My sickness kicked in middle of last week and only eating crap food and sweets is helping.I'm not far ahead of you, just 7 weeks today according to FC.

thunder sorry for the headaches, feel better soon x what was your book advice again?

Foodylicious · 13/02/2014 20:19

Have just ordered this book my sister has been banging on about
French Children don't Throw Food, anyone else heard of it/read it?
www.amazon.co.uk/French-Children-Dont-Throw-Food/dp/0552779172

jessplussomeonenew · 13/02/2014 20:24

Hi Sidney and welcome to the copter - sounds like you're well as launched into the weird world of pregnancy symptoms already. So many things I never knew had anything to do with pregnancy turn out to be entirely normal. Hope it is all starting to make it feel a little more real!

I also went off tea for a while, though back to the occasional cup now (in week 11). I have had phases of drinking vast amounts of milk or fruit juice. I also found popping a slice of lemon into glasses of water made them much easier to get down. Herb teas can be good (mint, camomile etc) though best to check the ingredients online as some aren't recommended.

BlindKitty · 13/02/2014 22:14

foody I need to do that vid more often. My coccyx is getting really painful now do hopefully yoga will ease it

bunny we all just got preoccupied with your news! We've got sid to fuss over now!

PoppySeedBun · 14/02/2014 07:54

Morning berries - and welcome sid!
Nice to have a shiny new berry grad in here as opposed to us old wrinkled ones Smile

Sorry to hear about sickness. I went off dairy completely from about 5 weeks until about 20 weeks (was still throwing up to about week 19, but less and less frequently).
Everyone is different with what turns your stomach, but there is a consensus that carbs are a good one. I ended up relying on almonds, Duchy original oaten biscuits, muesli bars, toast and jacket potatoes. And then some days you can do everything right - get rest, keep snacking, etc - and you still throw up. Sad
Just keep taking one day at a time.

Oh, and re: HCG, AFAIK, the absolute amount is much less important than the fact that it keeps going up - the normal range is enormous, and it should be doubling every day(?) so even small variations when the blood is taken will produce massive differences. Today you are pregnant!

Boomgoestheweasel · 14/02/2014 08:03

sid welcome to the copter old chum! So pleased to have you here, have a cup of herbal Brew and get comfy Grin

Good work on no sofa lounging merk she says while lounging in bed

Got my first NCT class tomorrow folks so I'll let you know if I think it's worthwhile or not. Ended up having to tell the teacher what I do which annoyed me quite a lot, wanted to keep it quiet but she pressed and pressed. Grr.

brod any word on that scan?

angel 22wks!? When did that happen?? And thunder 35wks...bloody bloody hell. I remember being jealous of your lofty 8weeks to my 3, way back in summer..come a long way eh?

bunny I think it might be time for a bunny list. I've lost track of everything and everyone. Shall I start?

Boom, 30+5, edd 20 April, pair of surprises. Got the pregnancy waddle down to an art.
