Placenta previa and yoga etc?

Sorry if there is a topic similar. I searched.
I am 21 weeks pregnant with placenta previa totally covering the cervical os (what's os stand for?)

I have been doing yoga for around the last 9 months to combat lower back pain. I am now worried about continuing because I had a miscarriage last June following a yoga session (12 weeks pregnant). I have heard you have to be a bit careful with previas. My midwives (never speak to the same one) don't seem really bothered although the sonographer said she was sure placenta would not budge.

Hence I have turned to mumsnet for the first time ever to see if anyone knows what I should be careful with?

Thanks ever so

I am 21 weeks too and have a similar issue, though my placenta is just low-lying and a grade one, as opposed to completely covering the os. My last baby arrived 6 weeks early and no reason was found, so I am being ultra cautious this time.

My obstetrician was pretty clear that yoga is not advised - he said no running, no jogging, no yoga, no Pilates, no swimming and no heavy housework. Walking for exercise and sex are okay, if you're so inclined.

Sorry if that's not what you want to hear - it is a bit tough having to see all your hard work keeping fit go to waste. I've got another scan next month at 28 weeks and if it's resolved by then I'm hoping to be able to get back to normal.

Good luck

Different docs different advice- I was told light exercise is fine but I'm on "pelvic rest" (no sex or examinations) having another scan (29weeks) on Monday hoping placenta might have moved but if not scan again at 32 weeks.

Thanks guys. It seems strange that there is such a difference in scan times. I had my 2nd scan at 20 weeks but my next one is not until 32 weeks which I think is a bit late. I have heard the risk of bleeding before that time is high and I am terrified as I bled during 2nd trimester with my last son and they did an internal exam at hospital. Don't think any pp was ever discovered. Oh well, I suppose they know what they are doing. And it's anterior too btw which I am not sure will make much of a difference until the actual cs. Let me know how you get on please...

I can't help much Gualsa other than to say that 'os' doesn't stand for anything: it's the Latin word for mouth Smile
