Pregnancy and cystitis

Hi, I've been having a repetitive cystitis for about 3.5 years. Sometimes I had it for months with just couple of pause days, once even kidney failure. Doctors've never cared and always just gave me antibiotics or nothing. No effor to find out why is it happening again and again.

Now I'm 6 weeks pregnant and having cystitis again for second day. I'm even afraid to go to the GP as they'll refuse to help again.

Anyone knows if cystitis in pregnancy is serious and dangerous? Can it harm my baby? I'm not taking any medication or pain killers, only cranberries capsules and drink a lot to stop it.

Change your GP and get it treated ASAP. Leaving it can cause problems.

Yes i think cystitis can cause contractions that lead to preterm labour. That wont necessarily happen but it can. If it spreads to kidneys it can be very serious in pregnancy. It is more likely you will develop it in pregnancy as you dehydrate easier and urine flow is slower, plus you may occasionally have glucose in urine when pregnant which encourages bacterial growth. If its mild cranberry and water may clear it up but i wouldnt let it go on for longer than a day as if it hasnt cleared up youll need antibiotics. They should most likely give nitrofurantoin in pregnancy, as the usual trimethoprim is an antifolate. If gp not listening go to emergency doctor in the evening. Beca use you are so prone to getting it, its likely pregnancy will make it worse so mention it again and again to gp, midwives etc until some one listens.
