Hello im 34+4 and my bitch has just started to show interest in my bump, she has never been bothered with me, more interested in my dp but the last few says she is behaving odd! She looks at me funny tried licking my bump and today she laid across bump as close as she cld get.

Its unusual behaviour for her, is this because im getting closer to the end or just a coincidence?

Anyone else experienced this?

Yea!

One of my dogs has changed his behaviour. He keeps sitting just out of arms reach and barking at me. Its really out of character too.

How old is your dog? Wonder if its an age thing...mine are 17 month old

Mummytobe2014 · 31/01/2014 19:46

The bitch is 4 yeara old 5 this yr and my dog is 4 this yr.He has been aware since early on but she has only just startes to act oddly.

They r funny arent they, i wonder whether they understand whats going on!

I did start to think perhaps baby was on his way....eeek hope not as we r not ready!

How far along are u?

I think dogs can smell the hormonal changes and they do have an understanding that you are with child from fairly early on :)

My dog definately knew as he wouldnt put his paw on my tummy which he always used to but she isnt so delicate lol but over last few days she has changed Smile

Ours has become super protective which is annoying as he's become a bit aggressive with it so it's lots of trips to the trainer! He's been that way right at the start.

He's very gentle around my bump and stomach area and has come and cuddled up against it more than once. Given he's a jack Russell it's quite an achievement for him to stay calm Grin but he's very delicate around me now bless him.

They are so intuitive aren't they? My old dog, female cavalier, always made a beeline for all my pregnant friends and sat straight on their laps. She just knew.

SaucyJack · 31/01/2014 21:04

My long cat used to do this when I was expecting DD1.

I think they can hear the baby.

SaucyJack · 31/01/2014 21:05

Long gone cat- tho she wasn't short either.

Mummytobe2014 · 31/01/2014 21:06

Its amazing really how they react so differently. I wondered whether mine wld be protective but so far they havent been.
Iwonder whether that will change once your lo arrives? Can they be trained now qhen they can sense something different?
Its lovely that he has become cuddly and delicate around u, i have heard JR's r quite active so it does sound like an achievement lol.
Mine are Bulldogs so quite relaxed infact mostly asleep lol
Ithought that bitches would be more likely to show interest than dogs to be honest, i wonder whether certain breeds are more intune than others!?

My dp said he thought maybe she cld feel the baby but i guess they cld hear it as their hearing is much better than
ours. Be interesting to know for certain

My dog did this when I was pregnant with DC1 - very cute! Now she knows the reality of having a child in the house she is surprisingly uninterested in my bump this time around!! HmmSmile

mistymoon7 · 31/01/2014 21:13

My cat has become a lot more affectionate towards me since I became pregnant, he used to pay no attention to me whatsoever, much preferring my DH but now he loves to lie close to my bump and purr, it's so cute!

Pantomime · 01/02/2014 10:05

My one year old huskey/alsation loves to stick his nose up my top and sniff the bump and I'm 32+5. At the start he wouldn't come near me at all...

AngelinaCongleton · 01/02/2014 10:07

Awwww my dog used to put his head on my belly from 7 weeks or so. They know. Always makes me cry when I think of that.

puggywug81 · 01/02/2014 11:01

My little pug cross loves to get close to my bump, I think maybe she can hear the heartbeat, she curls up next to it in bed and tries to lie on it when I'm sat down. It's super cute but now I'm 32 weeks it's far too uncomfortable to let her lie on my bump!

Mummytobe2014 · 01/02/2014 11:29

Its so sweet isnt it....she hasnt shown any interest today tho lol...
Our bella is a bit of a lump so her trying to lie on me was fun, she settled for my lap nxt to bump :-)

One of my cats definitely knew I was pregnant before I was, and my dog likes to lie next to me with her head along my bump. I'm 23 weeks now and baby can definitely tell if something warm is pressing against the bump, so our dog keeps on getting thwacked in the ear and looks confused... hasn't stopped her yet, though that might happen once the thumps get stronger!

mel0dy · 01/02/2014 20:34

Both cats are paying me more attention but cos I'm a big cynic have put it down to me being sedentary and the weather being cold so they just wanna share my body heat and sofa blanket! OH noticed it first.
