Raspberry Leaf Tea vs Capsules?

Are either more effective than the other?

I'm rather fond of the tea, so that's not an issue.

Advice??

I guess you get a guaranteed strength per capsule whereas with the tea it depends how strong you make it.

MrsVDB · 31/01/2014 20:00

I've heard the capsules are stronger. The ones I have from holland and barret can be opened and mixed with hot water to make tea so I do both

HannahG315 · 02/02/2014 19:13

Thanks. Smile

Sorry for slight hyjack of thread but it seems the capsules are £2 on holland and barrett currently - are these the right ones? Also i am 34 +6 is it about the right time to take them? Thank u Smile

Shellywelly1973 · 02/02/2014 20:48

I think it's recommended from 37 weeks - though I could be wrong.

Cariad007 · 02/02/2014 20:55

The ones I got were about £7 but they were in he buy one, get one for a penny deal at H&B. They're 400mg capsules.

Mummytobe2014 · 02/02/2014 21:02

Thanks shelly i am happy to wait, i thought there wld be
more info on the website but guess it may say on the actual bottle.

Cariad think they r the same ones as you can save £5.49 at the mo so seems quite a good deal think i will buy some asap.

Anyone know how many u take a day?

Thank you for replies btw :-)

Cariad007 · 02/02/2014 21:33

Up to 6 a day it says on the bottle. I'm 38 weeks so am taking two with every meal. When I remember!

Mummytobe2014 · 02/02/2014 21:35

Did you start taking at 37 weeks or earlier?

Mummabear12 · 02/02/2014 21:42

Sorry to sound silly but why should we take these? X

Mariposa70 · 02/02/2014 21:53

Capsules sound good, had the tea with my first, which was vile.
With my second had tincture which was also vile.
Maybe this time round will try the capsules Smile

Cariad007 · 02/02/2014 22:05

I started taking them at 37 weeks.

Apparently they make contractions stronger and more effective. How true this is I don't know but it can't hurt to take them!

Mummytobe2014 · 02/02/2014 22:17

Think il start at 37 too only two weeks away. I read on an old post that they help post birth too in helping everything go back to normal but i dnt know how true that is either!

Hve heard the tea isnt very nice and i dnt get on with herbal teas so gonna stick with capsules Smile

Cariad007 · 02/02/2014 22:20

I've not heard that they help post-birth. Perhaps you're thinking of arnica tablets? They can help with swelling/bruising etc apparently.

Mummytobe2014 · 02/02/2014 22:27

I saw it on another mn post but it was an old one as i was searching for details on these tabs, i wasnt sure whether there was any truth in it either and perhaps tje poster was thinking of arnica!? I havent seen anything else to back it up online either....

I wonder whether there issomething good to take post birth!

Cariad007 · 02/02/2014 22:48

Actually, just spotted this in MN:

Drinking raspberry leaf tea during and after labour may also help with milk letdown, reduce after birth bleeding and help the uterus shrink back to its pre-pregnancy state.

Mummytobe2014 · 03/02/2014 10:07

Ah ok so perhaps it does help then, i assume the capsules will work just the same as the tea!

Cariad007 · 03/02/2014 10:20

They probably work better as you get a guaranteed strength with them but with the tea it depends on how strong you make it. And I only dip the bag a few times when I have herbal teas as I don't like them too strong.

Mummytobe2014 · 03/02/2014 11:35

Yeh think ill stick to capsules then. I hate herbal teas so
drinking that much of it would be too much for me!

HannahG315 · 04/02/2014 22:11

So I was drinking raspberry leaf flavour tea, the capsules made into tea are awful!! It's like cigarette ash!

Stick to capsules!

I used it throughout third trimester with my first, had a long labour so not sure it helped very much there (though he did present with head stuck sideways so that might have had something to do with it). But, the mw did say that my uterus went back very quickly so probably helped with that. I had the capsules and drank a couple of cups of the tea. I will probably do the same this time (and pray for a quicker labour!)
