I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

diddy another June baby how exciting. It's a milestone to get to the last trimester, complete with baby hoofing me regularly in the bladder!

Resting quietly today gathering strength for an interview.

mrsb87 · 02/03/2014 13:24

Great news Diddybeth! I hope the new meds help you. I guess it feels like forever with HG, October certainly does! Well done for cleaning, I personally can't wait to get my house how I like it again!!
Yes lucinda the morning bile run is the worst, thanks for the reassurance about the hormone levels, I feel a lot better about it and so does dh.

Thanks for your support and comments everyone. I had an all right night but woke up and was sick again :-/ I think I just completely crashed yesterday and hit rock bottom, but a friend is coming to visit tmrw - first person I'll see apart from dh and hospital people in almost 2 months. I'm so happy that even that had me in floods of tears! I haven't been out of the flat since last Tuesday but I hope seeing my friend tmrw will help some of my confidence to return and encourage me to go outside if only briefly.

Booboostoo · 02/03/2014 17:52

I'm due mid-September and have my 12wk scan a week tomorrow. I am very stressed about it as I am 41 this year so will be very relieved to be over that hurdle!

mrsb87 apologies if someone has already suggested this but is it not possible to apply for incapacity benefit (I think it's now called Employment and Support Alloweance)? I had a boyfriend who qualified for this temporary help because he had a severely broken leg and was confined to bed for weeks. It's not a huge amount of money but it could help a bit. There are more details here:
www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/overview

mrsb87 · 02/03/2014 18:30

Thanks booboo I will give them a call tomorrow!

Meerka · 02/03/2014 18:45

good luck booboo!

got vomming bug from husband, 7 times last night, oh well, tbh its not as bad as early days because I'm not as run down now. Just wish i could go out and about with family, more than tired of being stuck in the house, if I go out then it drains me and the HG sickness comes out. day by day huh

mrsb87 · 02/03/2014 19:26

Oh no meerka I'm sorry you're ill! Can't imagine going through all this and a sickness bug. Luckily dh doesn't get ill much as he works outside but if he did I would quarantine him!

livingzuid · 02/03/2014 19:30

Having now edged into the third trimester is it me or does it get a bit worse again? Sigh. I get very rough in the evenings and my digestive system has gone to pot. Still haven't lost my taste for cheesy puffs though Grin

starry seeing friends always makes me feel better. Am sure you will have a lovely time.

booboo hope it goes well tomorrow! How exciting! I know the scan fear but chances are all will be well :)

meerka I know the bug it's been doing the rounds. Are you and ds on the mend now?

I have to travel all the way to Amsterdam tomorrow for an interview. Allowing loads of time to catch breath and not be sick. Going in the car makes me ill now so I'm hoping the train doesn't do the same thing!

Meerka · 02/03/2014 19:51

son's bouncy as bouncy, husband mostly better, im still vomming, was a bit better earlier, think that the bug + HG is combining, but not too awfully.

About getting worse in the 3rd trim, seems like a lot do. Though never as bad as week 6 - 18 or so. It still gets rough though :s Ye, it's glumly typical it seems.

Good luck with the interview and the travelling. Is this the job that you liked the sound of, but it's jsut at the wrong time?

LucindaE · 02/03/2014 20:05

Meerka Poor poor you, consoling pats. Too bad to get a bug as well.
Boo The chances are all on your side everything will be fine; forty one is a spring chicken these days.
livingzuid Sorry things are going downhill in the first tri.
Starry I'm sure seeing your friend iwll cheer you up a bit. It's awful when one has to live like a hermit.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Hello everyone!

How are we all?

I'm crap at keeping up with this board but just wanted to say hey to everyone.

I'm 22 weeks now. Was feeling loads better 19-21 weeks but the last week has been back to normal- vomming all the time and feeling shit!

Still not gone back to my work as a secondary school teacher and as ever absolutely sick of it (pun intended!)

20 week scan was all lovely and usual though.

Solidarity, sisters of vomit.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 02/03/2014 21:03

hey guys.

call the midwife is v touching ..
Lucinda I must update my due date - csection is 26 march, they had too many booked on 25th!

funny I totally forgot the sheer urgency of being pg; when youo need to eat you need it NOW! drink/ NOW! wee? NOW! etc.

Ijumpalot · 02/03/2014 23:06

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this so forgive me any typos etc...
I'm 12 weeks pregnant and have been vomiting since week 6. Didn't consider it to be HG but am now wondering if that's what it's turning into.....haven't been able to keep anything at all down in last 24hrs, before that was vomiting prob 3 a day, feeling horrendous, no energy, smells are my worst enemy. Saw gp last week who gave me promethazine- that really helped for 3 days and then suddenly stopped Sad today I ended up phoning the out of hours docs who prescribed cyclizine over the phone. Couldn't keep that down and started thinking I needed some help so went to see gp this evening who gave me stematil. I had off the chart ketones but HR and BP were ok so she said to try eat and drink this evening....have sipped half a glass of squash and managed a few oat biscuits and I think the drugs have helped as I haven't puked......yet....
What do I do tomorrow? Should I get my ketones checked again or just keep trying to eat and drink? Is it harmful to the baby?
Thanks in advance and sorry if I'm in the wrong place!

elizabethsmum · 02/03/2014 23:33

Hi ijumpalot sorry you are feeling so rough. Unfortunately definitely sounds like you are in the right place (((hugs))). Glad meds have helped a bit but I would get yourself checked out at drs tomorrow as you need to see what your keytones levels are doing, whether you needany additional meds, iv fluids etc. On the contrary hg is not harmful to baby it is mum who is suffering while baby is doing marvellously so please don't worry on that score.

many people also worry about having to take medications but when you get to a state of serious dehydration it is necessary to seek medical help in order to help you do this. It would not have been possible for me to get through my pregnancies without multiple medications and they are all frequently used during in pregnancies where needed.

Sorry you have had a bug meerka- myself and dd had a simultaneous 48 hr vomiting bug when I was 34 weeks pg with the twins- not good. Dh panicked when he saw me vomming into a loo full of blood and phoned labour suite but I was actually just having a massive nose bleed into the loo at the same time and had to literally speak to a midwife with my head down the loo!!

livingzuid · 03/03/2014 07:16

Hi jumpalot sorry you are feeling so rough but good news that your gp seems to be on top of things. Don't worry about drugs affecting the baby they are pretty resilient.

meerka I have two different interviews and neither one seemed at all phased that I'm six months pregnant Grin must be because I'm dealing with Dutch employers rather than British ones! Really interested in both but yes timing is a bit sucky only because I feel so wretched most of the time and my brain feels like it's in permanent fog. I was rehearsing answers with dh yesterday and could not get the words out! We badly need the money though and it would mean we could move house which I'm desperate for. So I could probably suck up working for eight weeks or so before going on maternity leave.

chaffinch Grin oh yes. I scared dh a bit yesterday by demanding crisps all of a sudden in a loud voice. And the baby I swear was using my bladder as a trampoline yesterday. It's such an odd feeling!

Jcb77 · 03/03/2014 07:49

Hi. First time poster but long time reader of the thread (you kept me company through some pretty miserable small hours a few months ago). I'm 28 weeks and had nausea/vomited my way through weeks 6-22ish. Then it settled to the point of feeling quite human again.... Until last week. I managed to avoid meds and all but half a day off work (stubbornness and stupidity, in retrospect).

Over the last week I've again started becoming very (freakishly) smell sensitive, car sick and nauseous when tired. Have thrown up again twice in the last few days (including a spectacular effort this morning) and have an appetite that is either very much there or very much not. I lost almost 1.5 stone over the first 24 weeks and am almost back to pre-pregnancy weight. Is this the start of more months of misery or could it be a 1 off? 1st preg and had been under the impression that one should 'bloom' at some point. Thank goodness for blusher is all I can say to that. Have enormous sympathy for all you regular posters/suffers.

Booboostoo · 03/03/2014 08:19

Sorry to hear about everyone's troubles!

Jcb77 I never bloomed with my first pregnancy and I doubt it will be happening this time. I was sickly green colour through-out! Misery from beginning to end - however I loved the newborn stage and as soon as I gave birth I felt athletic, energetic and young (despite the CS!).

mrsb87 · 03/03/2014 09:02

Morning! how is everyone today? How is your bug meerka?
livingzuid good luck for your interview today! Fingers crossed that you travel well today.
I have a visitor today, haven't seen my best bud since before Christmas so I can't wait for a good catch up! I have warned her she will be in control of her own food and tea situations.
I am planning on making a few phone calls today to mortgage people and benefits people to see what I can sort out. I'm hoping it will take the pressure off me having to return to work before I'm ready.

LucindaE · 03/03/2014 10:49

Welcome, jcb77. Happy to meet you, sorry you are suffering. Unfortunately, some people do find it gets worse again in the third tri, not anything like as bad as in the first, but a disappointment if you've been feeling better. I do hope it's a hormonal surge, and might go off, though. It's not fair! Feel free to moan all you like. I'm glad the thread helped, I always forget we've got people following too and it can help them - I would be fascinated to know how many views there are. As I can't see anyone viewing it for fun Grin so it must be for information. So y ou've battled on without meds and somehow working, my goodness, you deserve a medal. Do go for meds if it's making your life wretched, though. I suppose you invested in the famous kestostix?
Welcome, IJumpaLot. I can only second the advice elizabeth'smum gave yesterday, I do think you should see the GP for different meds as it sounds like it's getting worse. Have you got kesostix to check on your dehydration levels yourself - available from chemists? I wonder if the ketones were so high they didn't send you for IV, this does seem to vary so much. I knew of one women on this thread who was sent home with 3+ ketones which is the level at which they normally admit as an emergency, and I gather it's all to do with starvation too. How are the liquids staying down? Do you have that dreaded dehydration headache, dry skin etc?
somedizzy Nice to hear from you, and sorry you've had a relapse.I do hope it is a temporary setback. What meds are you on and how are the liquids staying down?
livingquid Good luck with interviews, you are very brave!
Meerka How are you now?
mrsb87 I hope no Bile Run this morning?
Chaffinch I'll add that 26 date soon.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked (goes off clucking).
xx

Dear lord who paints their nails on a train! Trying my best not to gag/reach over and throttle them...

mrsb87 · 03/03/2014 11:14

Oh no!! The dreaded smell gags!! I found having a slice of lime permanently stuck to my nose helped a fair bit. You do look a bit special but I didn't care!
Lucinda nope, no bile run today. Phew. I've had a few dry gag moments and had some marmite on toast and am feeling ok.
I do hate waiting for call backs, I always feel like they've forgotten about me!

SicknSpan · 03/03/2014 11:15

Hello everyone. It's been ages since I posted here as HG faded at about 18 weeks and I have been well enough to be back at work. Still taking 3x 50mg cyclizine and 18mg Ondansetron as sickness starts to rear its head again otherwise, but all things considered it's not been too bad this time round. (dc no.3) Only hospitalised once for rehydration when with both ds1 and ds2 I was in for 4 days at a stretch every fortnight or so.

But I think it's starting to come back again. Remember this with DS2, had a 10 week reprieve in the middle then WHAM! Full on sickness again from about week 27. Guess what week I am? Yup, 27.

Am feeling so depressed about it all :(

ChaffinchOfDoom · 03/03/2014 12:05

aw sicknspan you've had it so bloody tough. you are so brave doing pg number 3 , I cant wait to see my little number 3; the family are getting rather excited now Grin

somedizzywhore1804 · 03/03/2014 12:55

So sorry sicknspan. I seem to have gone back a stage at 22 weeks. You have my sympathy.
