Bridesmaid dress - how much extra bump room?

Hiya everyone!

I'm going to be a bridesmaid at the end of March. My dress is one of those custom made jobs from china so need minimum a months notice of my measurements.

I will be 14 weeks gone at the wedding with my first. Now I know it's near on impossible to know how much I will grow but I have to fathom a guess regardless! So every story helps.
So what 2 inches bust hips and waist? More on waist? More on hips?

About me tho if this makes a difference

5 ft 4 tall
Size 12 (around 145lbs)
34DD

The dress is one of those tight round the boobs then kind of floats out, it's a floor length so I hope some of you can picture it! Basically it's not tight fitting all down my body.

I don't have good core/stomach muscles, always been a leg and bum girl so I think that might make me show earlier, but then I'm a 12 so there's a little fat to get through. Or does the fat sit on top? Or does it go to your hips?

Extra question. Where does your existing tummy fat go? Sorry if that sounds daft but baby bellies are always round and hard?

At 14 weeks you will only need the next size up, if that.

Hi OP. At 14 weeks I wasn't showing at all. I wore a non maternity dress at 8 months pregnant - it was fitted bust & a maxi so stretchy over the tummy I just had a size bigger than normal to accommodate my bigger boobs.

I'd say order your normal size - they generals leave generous seam allowances so you could get it let out by a seamstress if necessary.

At 14 weeks my waist was thicker and stomach had a little bump but in same clothes size maybe add an inch and find details of a good seamstress just in case.

Sorry to high jack your thread but I will be a bridesmaid in beginning of October and due mid July! Lady making the dress has said she will do it in September but what can I expect to be looking like? First baby so no idea about these things!

Hi, Missco, how nice to be bridesmaid :) I was in the same boat, but at 22 weeks. The dress was ordered from the States, three months needed to order it etc. I spoke to the shop who were brilliant. I didn't want the bigger size as I reckoned the shoulders would be too wide so instead they ordered extra material in case they had to out extra panels in. In the end there was an extra three inches that could be let out in the dress just in the seams, doesn't sound a lot but was! So we didn't use the extra material - they just let out the seams and then fitted the dress over my bump.

I am (was) 5"3, 120lbs ish and size 12 bottom half, size 10 top half (no boobs, big bum!). I would reckon at 14 weeks they should just be able to let the dress out a bit and then fit it to you. I paid about £60 for the alterations but was so worth it as the dress fitted well. Good luck and have fun :)

I was a wedding guest at 15 weeks. I bought a dress at about 9 weeks, one size bigger than usual. It fit just. Couldn't have worn it a week or two later though!

I was 11wks pg when I married and had a similar style for my dress. I actually had a size smaller than pre preg as I lost weight in the first few months.

Id say get a size that would fit you if you were a cup size bigger (lots of people I know had boob growth in the first few weeks), then you can take in if needs be.

At 14 weeks you will probably look (bump wise).as if youve just been out for a big roast dinner.

I wore a size up to a wedding at 16 weeks, if that helps. Roast dinner tummy (and big boobs) describes it perfectly.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. A bit bigger on the boobs should probably do it.

Can I also suggest you see the bra intervention threads in style and beauty? You won't be a 34DD.

I'd be cautious as I've been told the Chinese dresses come up small.

Does the dress have a corset back or could you get a corset back put in? I know they're not everyone's taste, but it would really make things a LOT simpler in your case! Could be adjusted to accommodate bump and/or boobs!

Also if it helps, you can safely wear spanx while pregnant, although I'm not sure how comfortable you'd be!

My sis had this problem when 3 of he bridesmaids (including me) found out we were pregnant and all going to be fairly late stage, after she had ordered us all our dresses (I was 37 weeks on her wedding day!) We ended up all having alterations the day before the wedding!

At 14 weeks I wouldn't worry too much, if it is flowing loose from under the bust as I assume, you should have plenty of space around the belly. I would maybe allow a little extra bust space but it varies a lot from person to person I think.

I was huge in the belly from fairly early on but was probably only obviously pregnant from 16/18 weeks, my bust grew when I first fell pregnant and stayed about the same size until after birth when my milk came in and my bum and thighs chunked out! Luckily, empire line dresses hide all manner of sins!

I'm 16 weeks tomorrow with my first and I still don't have a visable bump. I just need a bigger size up top to house the Mitchell brothers stashed in my bra
