Early days for me but wondering if I should see doctor before 8 weeks because of it? I'm on meds which I know are safe for me and baby.

Hi bump
I have ulcerative colitis. I told the midwife at my booking in appointment and I've been referred to a consultant at the hospital I'm having the baby in. I've seen her once already and I'll have a few more appointments later on just to check everything is ok.

My care for UC is at a different hospital so I told them as well and I've had an extra appointment with them too.

I was given a prescription for a higher dose of folic acid (5mg) so it would be worth seeing your GP for that. I'm also taking calcium and vit d.

So far I haven't had any problems - but I noticed that if I forgot some of my meds for a bit then symptoms would begin a bit faster than they normally might. Remembering to take my meds helped!
I've been told that some people's UC will get better, some will get worse and some will have no changes.

congrats on your pregnancy and hope it's a smooth ride

I have colitis and it's been fine since pregnancy - mine is just proctitis so they've said as long as I take 400mg of folic acid that's fine

Congrats on your pregnancy!

Thanks ladies! I haven't called GP yet perhaps I will tomorrow? I think my UC is fairly mild, it's mainly lower down my colon. I noticed when I started to take the folic acid symptoms got bad again dispite being on meds so I'm a little worried what you said nerdy bird about needing a higher dose is this because we don't absorb it as well? I have appointment with consultant at hospital on Feb 12th where I will tell her I'm pregnant but now I'm worried I should see her sooner? I am taking pregnancy vitamins now which have more in them including 400mg of folic acid I hope that's enough.

I had consultant care throughout my pregnancy because of my ED related UC.

I found 1st and 3rd trimester horrid for flaring, but 2nd no probs. I struggled to get enough food and had key tones in my urine at times and had lost a lot of iron through bloodloss so had an iron IV which was wonderful.

Hope that helps! All fine now and med free with a cute 11 month old!
