I am guilty of being a glass is half empty kind of girl but I can't stop worrying I am carrying an ectopic pregnancy. I'm 5 weeks gone...not had bleeding but I'm having dull period like cramps and shoulder tip ache on and off. My doctor didn't seem overly concerned. Help I can't stop stressing out.I have had this kind of pain in my shoulder tip previously when I had pmt but not for a while.

Ectopic pregnancys are rare.
If the pain becomes worse, its worth a trip to A&E.
I was curled in a ball sobbing with pain even after morphine before I was taken to surgery. I was also bleeding.

I suspect the shoulder pain is related to hormones rather than an ectopic - since its something you used to suffer regularly with.

Please try to relax.

Oh thanks hun. Oh it's just a dull ache nothing major I just can't help feeling that I won't make full term as we only tried for less than a month

I'm 8 weeks and wss worried about this last weekens as I had pain in my right side. I phoned gynea ward at my local hospital and they saw me straight away and did a scan. All was fine and it's been put down to stretching pains.

Shoulder tip pain feels "weird" not just an ache in the shoulder. I had aching shoulders weeks 4-6 for some reason.

I have pain on 1 side, it's the luteal cyst (normal thing) irritating the tissue around the sonographer said (I had an early scan as history of MC - pg is in the correct place!).

BUT if the pain gets bad or persists, do contact your local EPU.

Ectopic pregnancies do not usually cause symptoms before 6 weeks. Shoulder tip pain is caused by internal bleeding and you would be starting to feel very unwell if that was the case. If you are worrying then you may be tense which is causing shoulder pain. Aches and pains in pregnancy are very normal are you are probably hyper aware of everything at the moment.

Try to relax (easier said than done I know!) If you experience any symptoms that worry you such as bleeding (particularly prune coloured), rectal pressure and abdominal pain then please seek medical attention. Congratulations on your pregnancy Smile

Thanks for your replies. Yer it's more of a twinge than a pain. Also still no bleeding so I guess that's good and I know I'm silly doing this but did another test today and the second line came up in an instant and was very dark so I'm guessing my hormone levels are increasing quickly which has got to be a good sign

Period pains are normal around 4-5 weeks when your implanting.
Nerves are normal to ;). The 1st 12 weeks are an emotional roller-coaster.
Obviously if the pain gets very bad get it checked.
Otherwise if you are nervous consider getting a private scan in a few weeks.
I got one at 10 cos I just couldn't wait for the NHS. Best money I ever spent- calmed my nerves and meant I could really relax and enjoy going in for the 12 week scan and all the booking appointments before.
Think doing it before 9 is a bit of a waste as you won't see much, but the 2 and a half weeks were worth it for me (NHS was at 12 and 5).

As a person who had an ectopic preg.

I had bleeding, stomach pains. Mine was a slow rupture. Many visits to the docs followed, I ended going private, got a next day appointment (miracle). Was in the operating theatre the day after.

I lost the baby, and my tube.

My homeopath told me over and over it was ectopic, doc would not have it.

Docs are woefully under aware of symptoms.

After 7 years of ttc to get preg, I had a five week scan, and then six week.

Go with your gut. It saved my life.

Elderberri · 31/01/2014 14:05

Actually at 5 weeks I saw the baby, no heat beat. Next week heart beat.

I'm 6 weeks and worried about the same. I'm having mild pain on the right side of lower abdomen. I read about some pains in the beginning of pregnancy, that it's normal, but still. How can I know that this is the case when it's normal and nothing to be worry about?
I tried to make an first antenatal appointment at my GP's surgery to check if everything is fine, but they refused that it's time and GP doesn't have to see me till I am minimum 8 weeks. I live in Scotland, anyone knows if this is normal?
Everywhere in books and online is said that when we find out about potentional pregnancy, we should be checked by GP to confirm and get some care. I was wee disappointed about it :(

Well I'm now 6 weeks and no bleeding of as yet. Hgc hormones raising nicely. Dull ache in stomach gone. Still slightly anxious but I'm pretty sure I'm just being neurotic. velvetlilithi I am disgusted that your go practice are being like that. They should see you as soon as you get a positive test or even think you may be pregnant. I have my first midwife appointment on Thurs. I'm here to talk if you need to talk about anything
