I'm probably worrying unnecessarily but I've not yet received a scan date and I saw my GP 2 weeks ago.

How quickly did you get the letter with your first scan date?

Think it was at least that long - you could call the hospital and ask?

3 or 4 weeks I think. I think the wait will depend on where you are in the country.

I'm 8 weeks now
Doc was supposed to refer me to the hosp and also to the endocrinologist
Might phone the endo clinic next week as I have their number

In the northwest (well locally to me anyway) you see your gp for a booking in appointment who fills in relevant forms to get you onto the system. You then see a mw asap (I saw mine the following week) who then gets a date for your scan there and then. ATM our hospital is seeing women for booking scans at around 12-18 weeks.

Think all areas are differnt so it may be worth calling them now to check. Just incase the paperwork has gone astray.

I didn't get my scan date through until 2 weeks before my scan and I had seen my midwife ages before that.

KeepingQuiet · 01/08/2006 17:44

I know I will get a nuchal scan which should be done between 11-13 weeks
I doubt I'll see a midwife before then
Last time I didn't see the midwife til 15 weeks

I only got my scan letter last week (week 10)I think it came on the Friday I mentioned it to the midwife on the Wednesday(when I had my 1st appointment) and she rang the clinic for me.
I was all ready to be ringing and even thinking about booking a private appointment as a contingency plan. My scan is on the 9th Aug I shall be 12+3.
could you ring the clinic?
This may or may not help as I was initially told to do this but when I asked if I could just arrange it the MW said 'oh no you need to get a dr's referral' - well, why tell me to ring them then!!!?

I don't get my scan date until the booking appointment - they hand you the letter then (Why I don't know)

I think the important thing is knowing that the hospital are aware of you - personally I'd ring and check they've got you in the system. Last time I was 'lost' by 2 hospitals and had to chase them up, hence my booking & scan were after 15 weeks. this time I got the booking letter after about a week which seems reasonable.

I went to GP to tell them I was pregnant at 5 weeks.
They booked me in for antenatal at GP for 9 weeks.
I phoned at 6 weeks to make sure they'd booked my scan + booking appointment with midwife as thought by 9 weeks it might be too late (they agreed).
Got letter from hospital at 10 weeks (so took a month) with an appointment for both the 1st midwife appointment and the scan at week 12.

titchy77 · 01/08/2006 20:43

i was told to ring my hospital about a week or so after i saw my gp.

Myrtle1 · 01/08/2006 20:54

I saw my GP then saw midwife quite early - about 5/6 weeks for a brief appt. then had booking-in appointment with midwife at 10 weeks where we filled in forms which she sent off to the hopsital and about a week and a half later I got a letter from hospital to give me a time to phone them to arrange first scan which was done at 14 weeks.

KeepingQuiet · 03/08/2006 12:50

Got 2 letters today although neither is for the scan - one is the booking in appt at 13 weeks and then there is an appt at 15 weeks at some random health centre with a doc ??no idea what for though??

Still no scan date but maybe it will come tomorrow

Worst thing is I am going for a diff hosp to last time and both appts are miles away from where i live and one is in a really dodgy area!

I actually waited ages for mine and then the date they gave me was a real problem so I had to change it and ended up having my first scan at nearer 16 weeks which is not really ideal. I also had my first midwife appointment then. I found it really funny that they give you all this advice about what to eat/avoid etc especially in the first trimester at this appointment - but I was already pretty much in my second trimester by then.

redz · 03/08/2006 20:51

I didnt get a letter at all!
I had been admitted to the hosp for asthma at 7weeks and decided to take a stroll to the Antenatal dept they had all my dets on the system yet didnt know how come I hadnt recieved a letter. They jotted down the date for me and that was it.
Maybe a good idea to ring your hosp to find out all you need is name and address or Nhs number. Good luck x

Nemo1977 · 03/08/2006 20:53

All my scans have taken at least a couple of weeks for the letter to come through.
