Breastfeeding and formula

I've always said I would bottle feed my baby as that's what my family have done with their babies in the past. However, when the midwife explained all the benefits of breastfeeding last week I felt I should give it a go. I'm quite a shy person and wouldn't want to breastfeed in front of anyone, not even my family. I think the only person I would feel comfortable breastfeeding in front of is my dh. I was just wondering if anyone has breast fed and bottle fed? and if so what formula did you use?

Any advise would be very much appreciated.

I've solely breastfed so can't offer any advice on mixed feeding but there are huge health benefits to breastfeeding and I'd recommend reading 'the womanly art of breastfeeding' as a great informative book on it.
As someone else said, breastfeeding in public needn't be too scary - yes, the first time you do it, it's a heart hammering in your chest moment! But you needn't be whipping your boob out in a room full of people (although I do now these days Grin), if you want to be discreet there are lots of ways to do it, positioning yourself away from people, clothes that hide your modesty, feeding in a sling (I do this with my DS a lot while walking round and people think he's asleep). You can also ease yourself in by feeding at baby groups, breastfeeding groups.... Breastfeeding groups and lactation consultants are really useful and it may be worth popping along and having a chat with your local group - I'm sure you'll find a lot of like minded ladies who mix feed!Smile
