Where can I find supportive large cup size maternity bras?

Can anyone tell me where I can find large cup size supportive maternity bras? I was a 36H before I was pregnant and now at 14 weeks my normal bras are getting too tight already. Have tried Bravissimo (which is where I usually get bras), M&S, Debenhams to no avail - they have very limited selections in my size and the non-wired bras they do have provide nowhere near enough support to actually hold things in place! I have not worn a non-wired bra since my early teens as I've never found them supportive enough. Any tips?

You can wear a wired one as long as it fits correctly. I also have large boobs and couldn't wear non wired ones all the time. Not a cheap option depending on how quickly you grow, but at least supportive.

I agree on wearing normal wired bras, I am now 25+5 and just been fitted for the second time. it is expensive but worth it to avoid unsupportive maternity bras and means that my (already big but even bigger) boobs look good under clothes which helps my self-confidence. I think I may eventually have to give in and get unwired, but hoping it won't be until much nearer the end.

Check out Anita, Elomi and Bravado brands of you are looking for wired or more structured nursing bras. Unfortunately a lot of the 'larger' sizes just give you extra hooks on the band rather than more cup. I ordered mine online from a specialist maternity bra supplier, can't remember the name, something like www.parachutesizedmaternitybras.com

During pregnancy I wore normal unwired bras and sized up.

Argh, during pregnancy I wore WIRED bras, not unwired.

Have a look at the Doreen by Triumph - I was a 42G before pregnancy and am now up to a 44/46H and these thankfully do the trick.

Thanks everyone for the tips and advice, much appreciated. Sounds like I should really have asked whether I really needed to wear a non-wired bra when pregnant, great to know that I don't, phew. Thanks for the tips on places to find nursing bras too, that's really useful.

I only joined mumsnet yesterday so it's really nice to get such helpful answers straight away.

If the wires do get too painful (I had a rib pop out Confused) you could also try a sports bra. I'm rocking a £6 effort from Tesco today! I'd normally pay £30+ for my underwear without a thought but can't justify it with 9 weeks to go!

Its not ideal - I've got an uniboob - but definitely 100x better than a soft bra!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 29/01/2014 15:15

Uniboobs are ok, but never underestimate the hell that is thrush or intertrigo, when your breasts are swollen with milk/pregnancy and everything gets squashed up like that. Sad
Why not buy a normal underwired bra with a bit if room in it and adapt it to a nursing bra with the catches you can buy online?
Ill see if I can find a link...

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 29/01/2014 15:19

here

Dollydowser · 29/01/2014 15:20

I couldn't get any to fit, adjusted some of my usual Panache underwired with the clips I bought from Ebay, worked a treat.

LastOneDancing · 29/01/2014 15:48

I'm on about maternity pre-baby bras Saggy Smile

I will be forking out millions on nursing bras after. I'm looking forward to getting over to bravissimo for a spree!

I miss nice bras. I'm still mourning the loss of a gorgeous 30F coral polka dot set that I bought the weekend before my BFP. Wore it once Sad

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 29/01/2014 15:53

I still wouldn't buy anything special for pre birth. Have you tried Evans?

Franchini · 29/01/2014 16:08

I'm in 40 hh and they are fab.

Jolay100 · 29/01/2014 16:45

Great tips. I esp love the links. Thanks

SingSongSlummy · 29/01/2014 16:52

Another vote for Anita bras her. Amazing wired nursing/maternity bra for larger sizes. I ended up only wearing these for both pregnancies and subsequent feeding.

Ilovekittyelise · 29/01/2014 18:48

hi

i was 34g before. in my first pregnancy i got the diabolical soft cups from bravissimo. this time it was indignity too far and iv worn normal wired bras, one of the more basic panache styles. am also about to order wired nursing bras from figleaves (bravissimo dont do any).

really no need to wear dreadful floppy tit bras, unless they are digging into your boobs, which a well fitting bra shouldnt, it wont interfere with milk.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 29/01/2014 20:23

What put me off about the Anita website is that in my opinion, hardly any of those models are wearing bras that actually fit!
Confused

Thatsnotmyfigure · 29/01/2014 20:57

Saggy what are the clips called that convert the bra? I followed your link but just got the bra homepage!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 29/01/2014 21:00

Hmmm. Mine goes to the right page! Confused
if you look down the contents list, there's a link quite far down for nursing bra conversion.

ClearlyMoo · 29/01/2014 22:41

Bravissimo have been fab. I've been fitted twice. I was 34 F before preggo, then 36 G (18 weeks), now 38 GG(at 25+4).. they will fit you with under wired when pregnant. Unlike Debenhams whose policy (it seems) is to sell you a monstrous squishy uniboob situation when you're 13 weeks pregnant! My bras fit well and I can't bear the thought if not having underwiring. A sports bra like Panache is good for lifting and separating too though with no wire. I will get to that in good time!

Thatsnotmyfigure · 29/01/2014 22:45

Saggy apologies you were right - that looks brilliant! Think I'll be off to Bravissimo- those hideous bras I got in M care last time won't do this time round! Gravity is winning!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 29/01/2014 23:22

Every time someone says uni boob mine start itching in sympathy! Confused

Ginformation · 29/01/2014 23:47

Oooh saggy those clips look so good I just dropped my phone on the baby's head! Shock

I'm ordering some.

Ilovekittyelise · 30/01/2014 12:46

in case it's any use to anyone, i just ordered wired nursing bra from figleaves; theres a reasonable selection and some really good reviews from bigger busted ladies! i also had a live chat with an advisor about what cup size to get; obviously havent received the bra yet but a positive purchasing experience!!!
