Hi, last night I woke up with really bad pain in my ribs it started at the front and sort of pulsates and end up round my back aswell, I managed to doze off with the pain about 5:30 after it keeping me up from 1 am, but was awake again at 6:30 and I've still got it now :( baby has been really really active for her since I've had this pain I know she's head down and I can usually feel her feet at the top of my bump but this movement is all over bump.

the only way I can describe is the pain is like someone is trying to pull my ribs apart Hmm my bump has gone quite hard at the top aswell, anyone else had this? Or suggest what it could be? I'm so paranoid about every little thing I thought I'd be a bit more relaxed at nearly 36 weeks! Tia mn xxxx

Cant day for sure but im wondering if your baby has spun back round to breach and the reason for your rib pain and hard bump is her head pushing up against top if bump and ribs. Also you would feel more movement in different places with baby in this position. However since you are in such pain i wouldnt even wait to see what happens if i were you, id maybe call antenatal or go to a local midwife drop in. You arent going to be able to settle until you have an answer to why you are feeling the way you are unless you get professional advice.

The hard lump could well be the baby's bum. I have the same and on my last growth scan (37w) it was pointed out as having a nice big bum under my ribs Grin

But, pain under the ribs can be part of pre eclampsia so I'd call your midwife if it carries on especially if you have any swelling or headaches.

Most likely it's just the baby having a stretch though.

I sympathise - over the last two days the area underneath my ribs has been so sore. I'm 31+4 and it's driving me mad. It only in one very localised area and it's just this constant uncomfortable feeling of pressure. It's very tender too when I touch it Sad I'm assuming it is just baby lying in a very awkward position but it isn't much fun.

I just spoke to my Midwife about my discomfort and she thinks it is a combination of baby's bad positioning and muscular aches from stretching. She said if I start getting headaches or any visual problems then I need to see my GP straight away.

Aw thanks writer!i m Fearing that my lo has turned breached Hmm she gets hiccups 4-5 times a day and as she's been head down I've always felt them really low down (which I'm assuming is where her head is!) but today I've felt them more at the top right of bump! I have anterior placenta so I only ever feel anything low down and at the sides so I think she might have turned, also I have a very prominent hard lump at the top left of bump now aswell!! the pain has eased a bit so will see again how I get on tonight and poss just phone for reassurance if I'm still the same!
Getting fed up now! Just want her to arrive got everything ready and my body has had enough!Hmm so impatient! Lol xxxx

I had rib pain & tender skin at about 24 weeks. The doctor was useless and tried to give me ibuprofen cream!

Changing to a sports bra has really helped, and I got some temporary relief from doing this stretch (about halfway down the page).

HTH.
