your last minute crazy nesting activities

More of a lighthearted thread as I count down the weeks to baby # 2. The other night I woke up at 3:30am and hunted around the house for the tens machine pads I was sure had arrived in the post. The next day they actually arrived in the post!
With the last baby my friend ran into me at the supermarket as I was stocking up on several multipacks of toilet paper. She said later she knew I was going to have the baby soon as it's just the kind of crazy nesting activity she used to engage in.

Surely I'm not the only one who lies in bed at night running through checklists of things to get for the nursery, things to add to the hospital bag, etc...

I'm only 28 weeks but I've folded and re folded all the baby clothes. took out all the bottles and equipment just to put them back! remade the moses basket. im starting to plan my hospital bag and no doubt that will be packed and repacked over time!

spritesoright · 28/01/2014 09:47

LOL. I keep adding things to my hospital bag as they come up including most recently a snowsuit for baby (it's getting bloody cold). Dd was born in September so we didn't need it.
Annoyingly I am slightly held up by DD (2.4) who needs to be convinced to move into the other room so I can take over hers for the new baby. She's not buying it just yet - and I don't want to push her. This weekend I will be adding lovely butterfly stickers to the new room for further enticement.

I woke up at half 4 this morning because I had to soak the lasagne dish.

I'm 40+7. I hope this is a sign DC2 is on his way.

middleclassdystopia · 28/01/2014 16:46

I'm only 28 weeks, have washed, ironed and put away baby clothes. I keep opening the drawer and looking at them, all pretty and folded.

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 28/01/2014 16:50

I'm 40+6 and still waiting for any kind of nesting instinct! Seeming very unlikely now as I'm just knackered and everything hurts....

27mummmy2boys · 28/01/2014 17:00

As soon as I start cleaning under the couch, the skirting boards, door frames etc I know I'll be soon, its the only time my house looks completely immaculate!

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 28/01/2014 17:05

Ugh I wish I was like this. I'd love my house to be immaculate right now! I can't even walk to the bathroom without yelping in pain (SPD)

GoshAnneGorilla · 28/01/2014 17:07

I was scrubbing the detergent draw of the washing machine at 1am, the baby came a few days later.

spritesoright · 28/01/2014 17:09

lastnight these things niggle me but I don't actually do anything about it. Similarly the idea of getting on my hands and knees to scrub the floorboards is just not going to happen. I just have a running list of 'to dos' that will never get done.

I did however iron DH's shirts for probably the first time in our 9 year relationship. Only because he was driving 2 hours to pick up a new wardrobe for the baby and he needed them done....
Hope your SPD improves.

A few weeks ago I went on a folding spree. Towels, clothes, carrier bags....I think that probably counts!

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 28/01/2014 17:42

Ooh Gosh I did clean the detergent drawer last week....

McBaby · 28/01/2014 18:03

Only 27 weeks but for the last month I need to sort through and throw out as much stuff as possible! There will be nothing left in out house in 3 months time. But Currently at a stand still due to SPD again so maybe my nesting cce when I could actually do it rather than being annoyed by the mess!

Chopsypie · 28/01/2014 18:12

DH once nearly knocked me out because I was sat behind the front door, cleaning inside of it with a toothbrush. I usually just give it a wipe when I do the windows.

He was v annoyed, as he had taken DS out so I could rest!

As a PP said it's the only time my house was immaculate. I tend to go mad with dettol. I even disinfected the sofa last time I was pregnant.

SweetPea86 · 28/01/2014 18:56

Glad I'm not the only one, I plan to start redecorating the whole house even though it been done a year and half ago. I just want a fresh smelling house. Part of me thinks I'm doing this because of sickness and I thrown up every were. House it clean but I no were I've been sick lol
I go to bed on a night thinking about wallpaper and painting,

I also cleaned the kitchen at 7.30 this morning for 2 hours cleaning things that didn't need doing but I will sleep happy to night not,

Oh and I've just cooked up a batch of scones. Mary berry eat ya heart out

Writing that down I can actually see why my hubby thinks I'm mad

TobyLerone · 28/01/2014 20:28

The day before DD2 was born 3 weeks ago, I took all the wall lights off the walls to clean them Hmm

Shellywelly1973 · 28/01/2014 21:07

Dc6 is due today.

Unfortunately my nesting is always extreme but this time it didn't kick in until about 2 weeks ago.

The maddest thing I've done this time is hoover out the fridge!

I sold 140kg of clothes,yes 140kg!!

McFox · 28/01/2014 21:21

I'm only 21 weeks and already I've washed walls, scrubbed the inside of the kitchen cupboards, have thrown out a ton of stuff and now I'm obsessing over getting the carpets cleaned. With SPD and an inability to rest, this could be a long, uncomfortable couple of months...

stressbucket1 · 28/01/2014 21:28

I am 35 weeks and have been on a massive organization mission to Ikea and bought half the shop. Also cleaning constantly I do have a 2yo so nothing stays clean for long anyway!

LastOneDancing · 28/01/2014 22:32

I had a massive cleaning urge at about 22 weeks, i painted the bathroom, decluttered the spare room, it was ace. Thank goodness it came early because I'm good for nothing at 31 weeks...!

But I have started my 'to do' list for maternity leave. First job - detergent drawer!! It's obviously a pregnancy thing!
