Not feeling baby move......

A friend of mine is 23 weeks pregnant and doesn't think she's felt the baby move at all yet. She heard the heart beat yesterday so we know it's fine but was anyone else this late to feel movement? Any suggestions on how we might get it to make contact?

She could try lying on her left side. This squashes them IIRC. I didn't feel any movement til quite late on with dd (2nd baby) but I can't remember how late, sorry. It was after 20 weeks though and it was much less than with ds so I guess they're all different.

Sugar rush is good - chocolate, orange juice, hot chocolate seems to work very well. Then lie down so she is really concentrating on feeling movement and see if she feels anything. Is it her first baby?

My first kick was just after dp had done some prodding to see if he could get a response!

Yes it's her first. We'll try the sugggestions out - thanks

I only felt my first faint flutters with my first at 23 weeks, maybe even 24, even then I wasn't sure. I was very slim then too. This time I'm bigger but felt it alot earlier, everyone is different I suppose and each pgcy different, glad she heard the heartbeat!!

Drinking cold water also gets a reaction. I didn't feel my second move 'til later but I was also carrying a lot of water.

I didn't feel anything with my first until at least 23 weeks (and I wasn't slim even then!). What always seems to work for me is relaxing in a warm bath, maybe after having eaten something sweet. Rub the bump and give it a little prod and hopefully she will feel something. But as everyone has said, all pregnancies are so individual and different that I'm sure nothing is wrong, especially if she has heard the heartbeat.

Good luck.

please reassure her, i am now 22.3 weeks with my 2nd and i haven't felt much at all, but know all is well. didn't feel anything at all until 22 weeks with my first. so much has to do with the way the baby is lying as well.
a glass of really really cold water is quite good i find for nudging it! hth

I didn't feel my first baby move for definite til 26 weeks, though in retrospect I just didn't count the weird squirming feelings I got before that, I thought it was indigestion.

second baby moved at 16 weeks and third at 12 weeks.

SpringChicken · 08/03/2004 11:23

I am currently 22+2 and have only recently started feeling flutters and little burst of movement - still no definite kicks as yet.

As long as she knows everything is OK following hearing the heart beat - she'll just have to sit it out for the kicks - i got told off yesterday for poking the baby in a bid to get a kick out of it

Thanks for the advice I'll pass them all back to her
