Any ideas why my wee might have a high PH?

I went to see the midwife the other day and she told me that whilst there was no sign of infection in my wee, the PH was a bit high. She's sent a sample to the lab to check it. Is this something to worry about? Any ideas what might cause it?

Have you been taking a lot of antacids? Bicarb can acidify your urine. I took part in a study, once, when I had to provide an acidulated urine sample and had to take a load of gigantic capsules of bicarb to achieve that. That was a burperific experience, if ever theere was one!

Is high PH linkes to higher acidity? If the urine acidity is higher, might your body be trying to flush something out, e.g. an infection?

Try not to panic, particularly if you're otherwise well Smile

Sorry, just read that there's no infection.

No high ph is alkaline. A ph of below 7 is acidic

brainfart - you have alkaline urine (and I should know better)

If you eat a lot of citrus fruit and veg or consume a lot of dairy, or not much meat, that can increase urine pH.

That could be it, ouryve. I'm not a big meat eater (although I'm eating more in pregnancy than pre-pregnancy) and I do eat lots and lots of fruit and vegetables . I've also been eating quite a bit of cheese and wondered if the calcium in that might have an impact... To be honest, my wee is a bit 'hot' but I've found that more or less the whole way through this pregnancy...

Thanks for your help!
